I have been going to this office for many years. The care is gentle and non scary when thinking about any dental issues. When I have dental emergencies I can call and they will work me in. Even when they do a work in it never effects regular appointments. I will continue to use this office for all my dental work.

I was recommended to Dr. Helms by a good friend of both of ours for a broken tooth while I was visiting my Mom in Montana between changing duty stations. What happened: I called the office and explained that: -I just broke my tooth -I'm in town for a week and a half before I leave and do Army things so I need it fixed ASAP before I leave -Can they fix it? Yes they can. Sweet! I get my appointment on a Monday or Tuesday (I can't remember---this was in May2020), perfect! I arrive to get my broken tooth fixed----it's JUST a 5 minute consultation, NOT an emergency appointment to fix it. *I repeat a broken tooth and a hole in your face isn't an emergency apparently* And they didn't explain on the phone that this was just a consultation, especially when I said I'm super slammed, crunched for time and coming from an hour away. Ok so, I get over my pissedoff-ness-----Dr Helms is nice enough, cool. But makes a joke that he has tons of openings on Thursday to make an actual appointment to fix it (the day I EXPLAINED TO THE FRONT DESK SEVERAL TIMES that I'm leaving on) and that today is just a consultation. He shows me the xray and the broken tooth is close to the nerve; he says he can try and fill it but it may need a root canal . So I was like "ok let's just do the filling if you can and we'll go from there if it doesn't work and see about a root canal?" He agrees but seemed annoyed because I can't come in on Thursday (the day I'm FLYING OUT!!!) and need to be squeezed in earlier. ANYWAYS--------I was pretty pissed; like I can't chew on that side because I have a huge hole in my mouth, I drove over an hour to get to the appointment without her saying "it's a consultation", AND I leave in a few days AND they're making jokes that they can't get me in or refer me to another dentist who may have openings for emergency work??????? I honestly would have booked 2 appointments right away if they told me it was just a consultation. I didn't know a broken tooth wasn't a serious deal and when I said I didn't live in Montana and am leaving soon and need it fixed ASAP and she said "yes we can get you right in to fix it"::::: I assumed that meant they "could get me right in to fix it." UNFORTUNATELY (my favorite word with this place) I REBOOK to get it fixed because my friend recommended him and I'm in a time crunch AND the other dentists I called around to were all booked. Another hour drive, Dr. Helms makes a few weird comments about "that's as hard as it's going to get" about my filling when he's done...like...why wouldn't it be hard??? AFTER MY APPOINTMENT: -Sensitive to hot cold and sweets (I was better off with the hole!) -I have to go to Dental at the new base I'm at to inprocess anyways and the dentist asks how much pain I'm in because I have a SHITTY filling on that side and she's surprised I've gone this long with it like it is! I said "wait what??? I literally JUST had that done last week, are you kidding???" Not kidding, she shows me the xray with a HUGE gap INSIDE the tooth (I'm MORE THAN HAPPY to post my x-rays if anyone wants pics of Dr. Helms junk work). -I get a 'your Tricare wasn't accepted please pay $XXX out of pocket' letter in the mail a month or so after my appointment with Dr. Helms office. I call Tricare and after like an hour on hold they said "Helms Family Dental just didn't do the paperwork right, we'll resubmit it no problem." Not sure if they called Helms Dental or what, but I didn't see another letter. -NOVEMBER: Dental appointments opened up on base recently because of COVID, so after all these months (since May when I had it done) I can finally make an appointment to get it fixed and not be in so much pain on that side! Such a pain in the a** (and my tooth haha!) to have to get junk work REDONE and be in pain this whole time. OVERALL: When an Army doctor tells you you ha

My family and I were patients at Helms Family Dental for almost 10 years. I really enjoy Dr. Helms, he is caring and very good at explaining procedures. I feel he is a trustworthy dentist. I am giving them a low rating due to one individual in their office - Emily. Oftentimes my sons Grandmother would bring our son into the office for apts after school. I asked Emily to please stop scheduling with her as we the parents needed to make these decisions. She told me she couldn't do that and I needed to ask the Grandmother to stop scheduling him. I feel this is a violation of privacy, discussed it with Dr. Helms and he was very responsive to my request. Additionally, I needed a crown that inevitably led to a root canal. I was in pain for months and had to pay $1000 up front for the root canal. When I received my crown bill for $900, I asked Emily if we could set up a payment plan. She asked for a minimum amount that was 40% of my families monthly medical budget. There are four of us in this family and our son requires a great deal of prescriptions that are expensive. I tried to explain this to her and that I couldn't afford the amount she asked but she was unwilling to work with me. It is unfortunate because I was able to work out a great payment plan with the surgeon who did my root canal with no problems. They were always very friendly and helpful. Emily was not. When I told her I couldn't afford the minimum amount she requested, I was sent to collections within two months of the conversation. As a family dental office, I would expect they would look out for FAMILIES.

As a 35 year old male I'm embarrassed to even mention how many times I've stepped foot into a dental office to see a dentist or a hygienist as its never really been my thing. After some gum and teeth issues the last 3 months, I decided now was probably a good time to be seen and see if something was going on from my lack of care. I made an appointment to see Dr. Helms and although I was nervous for it, I'm glad I kept it. From the time I walked through the front door, I knew I was in good hands. I felt very welcomed from the moment I got my new patient paperwork until they took me to the exam room to be seen. Both the lady at the front desk and the assistant who initially did my x-rays and got me set up were both very nice! They were very professional and pleasant to talk with. When Dr. Helms made it to me, I felt very much at ease just from the first two encounters. It didn't end with them though, Dr. Helms was as personable and friendly as one could get. He made me feel at ease and explained everything to me in a very understanding way. Knowing that I have lacked the care needed for my teeth and gums over the years I thought I would get some kind of lecture, but I didn't! I got a plan of care that was easy to follow and had a one on one conversation on why dental care is important. The entire time I was in his care I didn't feel intimidated or looked down upon because of my past mistakes, but more of a hope that I can fix the problem now instead of it getting worse. I would recommend Dr. Helms and his practice to anyone looking for dental care. From start to finish, my whole experience was nothing but superb!
