We have been bringing our pups to Mexico Rd Animal Hospital since 1993. The old house on Mexico Rd could get a little tight on a Saturday morning but well worth the care we received. The new office on Sonderen Street is nice and spacious. All the vets, especially Dr. Hoernig, and vet techs have sincere concern for the wellbeing of our dogs. We will never take them anywhere else.

This office is affordable and staff seems to care for their clients. Front staff is usually busy with returning/taking calls and checking out all clients. The facility atmosphere looks and smells nice. Its conveniently close to home. Thank you for servicing our community.

I'm not a fan of leaving a bad review but my hope is that this improves Mexico Road Animal Hospital's care for future patients.

I took my dog in to check out a growth on her elbow. They couldn't make heads or tails of it and said to keep an eye on it. They then updated her shots.

My issue is with how they went about administering the shots. I mentioned my dog may growl when given shots which was interpreted that they should force a muzzle on her and wrestle her into submission. This terrified my dog to the point of her deficating on the operating table. After which she was visibly scared but never showed aggression.

I understand they don't know my dog but the level of escalation was unnecessary. She is an incredibly sweet natured dog, the neighborhood kids and adults always stop by to give her pets when they see her in the front yard.
I only suggest the vet considers taking a more thoughtful approach to giving shots, if the only tool you have is a hammer every problem becomes a nail, I wish they used a more gentle approach to ease her into cooperation as opposed to force her into submission.

Took my dog in as she was struggling to walk on her front paw. Vet grabbed at her paw, pulled and flexed to see if there was a tear or pull or subluxation. Turns out not, maybe just old and arthritic, gave her a shot and some meds to start in 3 days and said come back for follow up 10 days. Started the meds but dog took turn for worse. Started vomitting day and night and was drinking a ton of water. She was not touching food, but still vomitting. 2 days/nights of this and called to come see vet sooner. Vet calls back said stop the meds, give dog chicken and rice and we will see you Friday. My dog didnt make it to follow up appt as i called an emergency vet and was able to take her right in. $1400 later and after blood tests and xrays find out my dog has a large tumor and she unfortunately passed away. But hey chicken and rice will fix her.

I've been going here for years. I use to groom pets n it can be challenging some days. I'm sure being at the front desk can also be challenging at times. When ive called in ive been treated with the up most respect and they always get my pet in as soon as possible to address an issue my pet has. My pets have received the best professional care of any other place I've been. Thank you to the doctors and staff, at Mexico animal hospital.

Absolutely the worst veterinary experience I’ve ever had—if I could leave zero stars, I would.
The staff (from front desk to vet to techs) clearly have no idea what they’re doing. Zero confidence, zero competence, and zero care.
You genuinely get what you pay for here, and what you get is dangerously subpar care at full price. I’ve switched clinics and spent a little more elsewhere, and the difference is night-and-day. Save yourself the heartache, money, and risk to your pet—go literally anywhere else. This place should not be treating animals.
Do not recommend under any circumstances.

I love this vet office overall and have been with them for over 5 years. The veterinarians are amazing and everything is reasonably priced. The only negative ongoing thing is their front office staff. It doesn’t matter how kind or respectful I am, I’m often met with rude behavior. Whether in person or on the phone, it seems like I’m a burden to them. I don’t understand how people do a job they seem to dislike (or at least work in the people industry when they clearly don’t enjoy being around them). This office would improve so much with kind, front end customer service!
