When my father was nearing the end of his life, he had very few final wishes. He wanted a priest to administer his last rites, to be cremated, to have his ashes interred with the remains of his beloved dog, Mia, and to have his service at Speaks Suburban Chapel.
I had flown in from Seattle as his health declined rapidly, and this was the first time I had ever navigated a loss of this magnitude. I had no idea what to expect. Looking back now, 13 months later, I realize that one of the greatest gifts my father gave me was choosing Speaks.
