We appreciated the expertise of stain removal that Rob and his company brought to our home. He examined our carpets and quoted us quickly. So far we've been very pleased with Frank and team helping our situation.

Hired them to clean some stains out of our wool carpet, couch cushions and area rug. The cushions turned out fine but they brought back the rug wet and when we rolled it out the next day, because we didn’t know it was damp, it smelled strong of mildew. The wool carpet was ruined. The stains are now much bigger and bleached. They used a turning cleaner that looked like floor polisher and made mats and rubs in our carpet. Some areas look dirty where it was clean before they started. It’s just a disaster and a very expensive mistake. We plan on having someone else come and see what can be done to salvage the damage or if we will have to replace it. I think rugs and upholstery would be fine here but don’t let them touch your carpet!
Update: the wet rug we unrolled has smelled up the whole house. We had to take it out. We will also have to have that cleaned again.

I initially had a very positive impression of MaxCare Carpet Cleaning and Rob Decker. We were remodeling a new commercial space in Columbia, Missouri, and needed the carpets cleaned along with repairs in two rooms where carpet remnants from the remodel could be used.

Rob stood out from the other companies I met with because he seemed detail-oriented and explained how his company was different. He walked me through how he planned to repair the damaged areas and clean the carpets efficiently. He also recommended that his team handle the vacuuming, explaining that their truck-powered vacuum system would be stronger than standard plug-in vacuums and especially important because of the remodel dust. Based on that conversation, I accepted the estimate and scheduled the work.

On cleaning day, Rob arrived with four helpers. However, the crew used standard push vacuums that plugged into the wall, not the truck-powered vacuum system that had been emphasized during the sales process. Rob focused on the carpet repairs while his crew handled the vacuuming and cleaning.

There were also paint spots on the carpet from the remodel process. Rob treated those spots, but added a significant upcharge without first communicating that this would be an additional cost or getting approval before doing the work. This added to my concern that the project was not being managed or communicated clearly.

When I met Rob afterward for the walkthrough, the carpets smelled clean and looked acceptable at first. He mentioned that some areas would need time to dry because they had steam cleaned the carpet, so everything initially seemed fine.

Over the next couple of days, after the carpet dried, I started noticing dust still visible along the edges and areas that appeared to have been missed. I also reviewed the bid and noticed that the repair work described in the estimate did not seem consistent with what Rob had told me would be completed.

I emailed Rob with my concerns and invited him to meet at our office so we could review the issues in person and work toward an amicable solution. To his credit, he apologized and acknowledged that he had not managed the cleaning portion closely because he was focused on the repairs, which is why he did not realize his crew was not using the truck-powered vacuum system.

However, his response to resolving the issue was disappointing. Rather than meeting to review the work, he replied, “Why don’t we just get to the point where you beat me down on price, tell me how much you’re willing to pay and I agree to it.”

That response changed my view of the experience. My goal was not to “beat him down on price”; I wanted to show him what had been missed, discuss the unexpected upcharge, and work toward a fair resolution. For me, the way a company responds when something goes wrong matters just as much as the work itself.

As a real estate agent, I would not feel comfortable recommending MaxCare Carpet Cleaning to clients based on this experience. While the process started out professionally and Rob made a strong first impression, the follow-through, lack of clear communication, inconsistency between what was sold and what was performed, unexpected charges, and the response when concerns were raised left me disappointed.

They did an amazing job and were very reasonably priced. Everyone in my office building commented on how nice the tile, grout and carpet looked! We are now on a scheduled service plan with them :)

The repairs to our oval braided rug were flawless! We are very happy with the workmanship.
And after the rug was dry cleaned, the colors really popped out.
Maxcare did an exceptional job on our 50+ year old rug.
