My parents have invested tens of thousands of dollars in long-term care insurance through Bankers Life. Now that my dad needs it, and has been in assisted-living since July of last year, Bankers Life has been very unaccommodating and no matter how many documents have been submitted to prove that he is in a reputable assisted living facility, they have been unwilling to pay out a dime for his LTC. It has been nothing less than an exercise in frustration! The care facility has sent every requested document via US mail, fax and email and yet we are here eight months into his stay and they have paid out nothing. In fact, he has been required to pay his annual fees to continue to work towards a payout of the original claim. I understand insurance companies aren’t in the business of spending money, but at the very least they should be willing to pay out on valid claims. I recommend that you stay far away from an investment in Bankers Life long term care insurance.
