About Hennepin Healthcare Kidney Transplant Program
Hennepin Healthcare Kidney Transplant Program is a highly regarded medical facility that provides exceptional care and compassionate treatment to its patients. The reviews highlight the professionalism and expertise of the staff, particularly the doctors and nurses, who are praised for their knowledge, coordination, and empathy in addressing the challenges faced by patients and their families. The program is commended for its coordinated scheduling, thorough understanding of patients' medical histories, and the compassionate approach in addressing the difficulties associated with kidney disease. Patients and their families have expressed deep gratitude for the quality of care and the humane interactions they have experienced. However, some patients have also reported mixed experiences, particularly with long wait times and delays in receiving certain medical procedures. While the staff is described as extremely kind and well-meaning, the understaffing of the facility has led to frustrating waiting periods and additional financial burdens for some patients. Overall, the Hennepin Healthcare Kidney Transplant Program is highly regarded for its exceptional care, professionalism, and compassion, though there is room for improvement in addressing the challenges of patient flow and resource allocation.
I cannot say enough about my experience with HCMC. The quality of care and HUMANE treatment and interactions between my mother and family has been above excellent. The professionalism is evident in the coordinated scheduling, knowledge of my mother's medical history and compassion of addressing the challenges that come with suffering from a disease. If I were extremely wealthy I would provide a huge endowment for HCMC. It is well deserved. I want to especially acknowledge Dr. Maddon and Dr. Raman.
I have mixed reviews when it comes to HCMC. I've had 2 ER trips here, both is follow-up appointments within their system, and one that required a several-day inpatient stay. Overall, I experienced very kind and helpful staff. I'm a very talkative guy, and this seems to exacerbate when I'm in shock, but all the doctors and nurses that I've been treated by and been extremely kind and happy to explain what is happening. Now for the part that lowers my review. My more recent trip (last may), I had fractured several vertebrae in my back, and was inpatient for 3 days, 3 nights. I have some complaints about waiting times, but it was pretty clear that the ER was understaffed and I had to wait for a room to be available, so I'm understanding of that. My main complaint is that I stayed inpatient for these several days, two of which, I did almost nothing but wait. I had to wait for someone to come measure my back for a brace (that was the only thing that happened to me day 2) and than for the brace to arrive (that was the only thing that happened day 3). Aside from this, I had (very kind) nurses give me medication. That's it. It didn't help that, due to the nature of my injury, I wasn't able to do anything but lay flat. In general, hospitals charge you by the minute for laying in their bed. Hopefully, this helps you understand my anger with the hours I spent doing nothing but waiting due to their understaffed hospital, and partners. The only additional complaint is that every Doctor and nurse who saw me encouraged that I needed to have a bone-density test due to the unusual nature of my injury. They kept saying I should get one, I kept saying I wanted one, they kept saying okay and leaving my room. Never did that rest occur. 8 months after my time in the ER, I got an email explaining that the Hospital had hired a new specialist who is able to perform the test. Apparently for the time I was there, the hospital did not have a staff-member with the knowledge or training to perform this test. All in all, I experienced extremely kind and well-meaning professionals. I grew impatient with the long wait times (and later bills due to the time I spent there), but at least they were nice. All my follow-up appointments were on-time and I thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. My only caution would be to make sure your insurance covers this care as mine didn't very well and even single pills of Ibuprofen were very expensive. It took a year of monthly payments matching most new cars to fully pay off this debt.
Terrible bedside manner. EMTs came to house quickly, which was good. Walked with neighbor to ambulance, then brought him into ambulance, conversing with each other in a casual, jovial way, not showing consideration for the very worried family. Did not emerge for 15 min, then when came out, very nonchalantly said they'd be taking him to the hospital. When wife asked how he was doing, what was going on, EMT shared nothing more, just repeating only that they would be taking him to hospital.
