“When my daughter decided she wanted to switch instruments for the following school year, and her school teacher mentioned that she would then need a private instructor to catch up on this new instrument, the whole process felt intimidating at best. I did not know where to even start looking for a cello teacher, and the first referral I got, before we discovered EMA, only helped justifying that feeling of intimidation. Simply put, the God complex the woman had was on high-quality steroids. I would catch myself thinking during her cello lessons that she could actually successfully teach God himself a lesson or two on how to behave like a God. : ) A few months down the road I finally decided I had to be honest with myself and acknowledge that this should not be such a dreadful, painful experience.
So, I expanded our horizons and discovered EMA, which turned out to be a completely different experience. Nothing there was intimidating and everything was welcoming and bright. Scott, the cello instructor we decided to go with, turned out to be the best choice we could have possibly made, given the circumstances. No, no God complex there. : )
And yes, Scott is friendly and professional, knowledgeable and patient, and one could go on and on onto that path. But then again, there's lots of wonderful people just like that out there. What I personally appreciate about Scott, however, is that, to him music does not seem to be a mere stepping stone, he does not come across as using music just to get something or somewhere. For Scott, music appears to be 'it' -- the end goal itself. And I believe this is what makes walking out of his cello lessons feel as if you have just witnessed something... sacred.”
