Took great care of my dog. Surgeon was good and very open and honest. Would recommend and will be going back as needed.

Took my dog in at 11:30 p.m.as he was having significant difficulty breathing and was disoriented. Triaged and was told that lungs were challenged and he had a fever of 103. Placed in a room to wait for the physician. I was told that it would be about 2 hours. At about 2 hours and 15 minutes, I rang the bell in the room, as no one had checked on either my dog or myself. I asked for a blanket for my dog to lay on, which was brought relatively promptly. I asked for an update on timing for the physician, and was told that it would probably be another 3 or so hours. There was only 1 veterinarian in the office. (I do realize that what are considered extreme cases get priority.) With that said, I wasn’t comfortable waiting an added 3 or so hours, as my dog was struggling. My own vet would open not long after I was (possibly) going to be seen. I chose to leave without ever having the opportunity to see a doctor. My regular vet saw my dog and immediately sent him to MedVet in Commerce, where he was seen immediately, as he was critically ill. He was placed in an oxygen chamber/tent and given IV antibiotics. Fortunately, he responded well and came home a few days later. I am beyond disappointed in the care at Blue Pearl. Totally NOT what it used to be, especially when it was MVS.

I’m not someone who likes to write reviews, however when it’s involving my puppy’s health and having such a horrible experience I do not take it lightly. I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone. Starting off with the reception and her horrible attitude to the nurses who made sure to repeatedly tell me that they’re not sure when the vet would be able to see my dog ( Mind you we were the only patients there at 4AM ). One of the nurses said things could change at any time if they have other people come in, basically stating that my dog who has been vomiting all night is not a priority. Reading all the horrible reviews my gut told me to take my dog out of there immediately and I’m so happy I did. YOU GUYS SHOULD GET SHUT DOWN!!!!

incompetent with zero sense of urgency. shouldn't take 4 hours to see a pet at an ER.

My rate is a 4-star because Blue Pearl has made some major improvements over the last few years. Some years back the customer service was horrible. And now that those employees who worked the phones and at the front desk are no longer there, I've been very satisfied with the service received.

From day one, I have received excellent service from the ophthalmology department (top-notch service). Also, when one of my dogs was gravely ill (kidney disease), after a 10-day hospitalization at BP (in 2020), I was able to bring her home and meticulously care for her, which allowed her to live 3.5 more years. I am forever grateful for that.

If there was anything negative to share, it would be regarding the ER protocol. I don't think the protocol services the needs of the clients well. I prefer to not take my dogs to an ER hospital near me because the care is not acceptable, based upon my standards (and there is always only one vet available). I actually took my dog, that had the kidney disease there first and they advised me to put her down. If I had listened to them and not taken her to BP instead, I would've not had the additional 3.5 years with her. However, BP will not provide care if they don't consider it to be an urgent emergency. They've turned me away in the middle of the night with one of my other dogs. For this reason, I can't give a higher rating. In my opinion, if I travel 30 miles to BP's ER in the middle of the night, it's for an alarming, important reason.

My 50 pound mutt had an ACL surgery. I compared prices and this clinic was the same price or cheaper than others. Dr. Karen Maxwell warned me that after the first ACL is repaired, the other ACL often gets torn as well. I appreciated her honesty but hoped for the best.

Everyone who saw my dog was shocked at how well she did post surgery. Unfortunately, she did tear her other ACL about 6 months later. Because she did so well with the first surgery, I had the other knee done. That was 4 months ago. Now she is just thriving and living her best life! She is 10 years old, but these surgeries made her a puppy again! She just runs and runs - no one would think she had two surgeries. She is so happy.

Initially, I wasn’t sure a surgery was in my dog’s best interest. Of course she didn’t understand what was happening, and I worried about the stress and pain it would cause her. Overall, would her quality of life be better avoiding a surgery and limping around, or going through the confusing, difficult surgery hoping for the best? I am so grateful I made the decision to move forward with both surgeries. She is doing better than I could have imagined, but the most important thing is that I know she is happy and enjoying life again.

The surgeries and recoveries were rough, but of course that’s temporary. Sometimes it felt that the staff was so acclimated to these surgeries that they perhaps forgot how scary it was to us, but that happens to human health professionals too, and it doesn’t matter in the long run. They do an excellent job with the surgery, and honestly, could they have done anything to assuage our anxiety anyway? Probably not.

I would 100% recommend Dr. Maxwell for any dog needing ACL (or CCL) surgery.

Most importantly - they saved my dogs life! Amazing. They diagnosed the problem quickly (rat poison which we had no idea he’d eaten) and started treatment immediately. They took excellent care of him, and were pretty good about staying in touch and keeping us updated. The doctors were very thorough and the nurses and other staff very kind.

The only down side is the exorbitant cost. But I also know it does cost a lot to take care of these animals. It’s just an extra stressor in an already stressful situation.
