i saw Rebekah today for a haircut and had a great experience! she listened to exactly what i wanted and i left with my hair feeling so healthy!

My experience with this salon is always stellar! While I’ve sat in the chair of several talented stylists at Douglas J, Janique is my go-to! She’s taken my hair on a beautiful blonding journey and I feel so happy with the results!
I always feel treated well by the staff and look forward to every visit!

I’ve been going to this salon on and off for an about a year and seeing the same stylist. She always did a good job with the cut in my opinion, but the Thursday before 4th of July weekend this year I had an appointment scheduled at least a week in advance. The receptionist called me maybe 3 hours before my appointment (appt was at 4pm) and said my stylist wasn’t feeling well and she had to cancel my appointment as well as another client. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and was hoping it wasn’t a lie, because honestly I would have been way more understanding if they had actually told the truth. I rescheduled the appointment maybe a week or so later. At the rescheduled appointment I asked my stylist how her 4th of July had been and she started gushing about how good it was and that her in-laws were visiting and they went out on their boat etc. Never mentioned not feeling well or anything. If you’re going to lie to clients you should at least pay attention to when that client rebooks so you can keep your story straight. Pretty unprofessional and I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The worst haircut of my life.
I went back in May, showed Alison Brooks EXACTLY what I wanted (with pictures), asked if she could do it, and she nodded like she understood. Spoiler: she didn’t. She did the exact opposite of what I asked for.
No face-framing layers. No shape. No volume. Just a flat, uneven mess that I could’ve done better myself with kitchen scissors. And I’m not a stylist, that’s why I paid someone else to do it.
She finished in 20 minutes. I had a ton of hair to work with and she did nothing with it. Absolutely rushed and careless.
It’s taken me months to write this because I kept trying to convince myself it didn’t look that bad. But no, it was that bad. I’m still mad.
Save your money and your hair. Go literally anywhere else.

I have been going to this location for over 10 years and every stylist has been fantastic.
I have been seeing Janique for a while now and she has cut my hair dry twice and I truly prefer it.
She doesn’t always choose to do this, but when she does I appreciate the fact that it’s quicker for her and I, I don’t have all these tiny little hairs on my clothes that I get when my hair is cut wet and the final result is just as beautiful.
Aside from that, Janique is wonderful.
She is professional, positive and a joy to be around.

The staff seem to enjoy their time with their clients. Caitlin really outdid herself with my cut today!

I have been a client at this salon for several years now. The salon is conveniently located, has great hours that accommodates my busy schedule and overall is just comfortable to be in. The whole team is warm and welcoming. They use primarily Aveda products, but have several others depending on your hairs needs.

Janique is my stylist and she is absolutely AMAZING. Whether my hair is straight or loc’d she knows how to keep it healthy while also making all my hair color dreams come true. She has worked with my hair in all of its phases and it consistently looks amazing. In addition she’s overall just a down to Earth, genuinely kind person.

Highly recommend giving them a try.

Disappointed in How My Appointment Was Handled

I had an appointment scheduled today at Douglas J Salon in Rochester Hills for 2:15pm with Madi—booked well in advance back on April 3rd to accommodate my busy parenting and work schedule. At 12:57pm, I received a text asking if I could come in at 1:30pm instead, because the guest before me finished earlier than expected and I was now “in the middle of that reservation.” I responded promptly, offering to arrive around 1:45pm to try and help accommodate the change. Instead of working with that, I was told they would need me there exactly at 1:30 or else I’d need to reschedule.

So because of an internal scheduling issue on their end, they canceled my confirmed appointment the day of—with less than two hours’ notice. No attempt was made to honor the original time I booked months ago.

This level of inflexibility and disregard for a client’s time is extremely disappointing, especially from a salon with Douglas J’s reputation. I expect better communication and customer service, and unfortunately I won’t be returning.

If you are looking for a long term stylist or someone to just get you through Kelly’s absence, I highly recommend Kristen M. She listened closely to what I wanted and has great skills and personality. You can trust she will take good care of you.
