They helped me get thru the end of life of my precious cat.

Customer opinion: The owner and her staff seem so overwhelmed and unhappy that they are unable to make logical business decisions and instead act from an emotional place.

    Summary:
Have been using this vet for years, as a first time cat owner. After a scheduling issue (I embarrassingly missed an appt for the first time and called to apologize and figure out next steps) that I discussed with the staff and ultimately the owner, Kathryn Watterson, it confirmed my intuition that I should not trust them with my cat's care.

    1) The owner stated since Covid, they have been burnt out and overwhelmed. I noticed that the staff's general demeanor had been defensive and rigid at times but brushed it off. On a call, I mentioned that if any issues ever came up with scheduling that they could call me and I would respond right away. The receptionist, who was in crisis mode, interpreted this as me complaining about their policy and told others I was mad about the policy, which was not true. The receptionist told me she is so busy during the day that she doesn't have time to make any phone calls. This statement did not inspire confidence in their care, even though I was not asking them to change their policy. When I provided this feedback to the owner, she stated how hard the job is and how overwhelmed they have been since Covid. She did not express any solutions or ways to address how her staff is struggling and was not open to any constructive discussion. I did not take this personally, but see it as a broader symptom of a place that is stretched too thin from the top, which is creating the toxic and unpleasant environment in the business.

    2) She stated that customers are consistently rude to her and her staff and she is sick of it. As a customer of many years, it was concerning to hear the owner immediately bash customers and vent to me. She told me that she expected me to say her staff was rude but never asked me what my experience was or what my feedback was from the start. This was another red flag to me and made it clear that the owner does not value customers, customer feedback, or believe in providing customer service. She also does not seem to have appropriate outlets for general work venting. An owner complaining about other customers to a customer is unprofessional and inappropriate.

    3) She stated that turnover is extremely high and because of that, she needs to back up her employees 100%. This is another red flag. I noticed that in the last 3 or 4 appointments, my cat had seen a different person each time. This was concerning since my cat is older and I would like a vet that can establish a relationship and understanding of her history and personality. A high turnover can often be a sign of a toxic and hostile/bad work environment.

Once it became clear to me that the owner seemed to set the tone for the environment, I told her that I would like the medical records sent to me so I can find a better place. Even that became another bad experience and red flag: The medical records are supposed to be about my cat and her care and I told her I would be sharing them with the new vet. She and her staff entered a number of subjective, incorrect, and skewed notes about my customer feedback that were unprofessional and that had nothing to do with my cat's objective medical history. A portion were even typed in all caps.

They do appear to care for the animals but in my case, their emotions clouded their ability to provide care to my cat or to recognize a customer who was simply trying to get care and move forward. They turned a simple scheduling issue into hours of drama and negativity.

Finally, the new vet has noticed a number of issues that Little Friends seemed to miss. I have seen an improvement in my cat's health with the new care, so I am thankful that this pushed us to find a new vet.

Very patient, and informative after growing up on a farm and owning all sizes of pets, they were very informative, explained everything so that I could understand it, ( many clinics I've been to, talk over my head, like I'm the Dr, they put it into terms I could understand, never at anytime did I feel like I was rushed through the visit, will be making appointments for all of my pets here, they made me feel like I was more of part of the family, than a distant cousin. Thanks for the heartfelt care, and the knowledge I gained just from taking my dog here.

Updated: Still my favorite veterinarian without a doubt. Excellent care in front and back of house. Dr. Bonnie is thorough, explains my questions, cares and loves our pets as if they were her own. It is also clear that everyone loves working at LFOF!

We LOVED our experience at LFOF. Dr. Burke was fantastic with our kitties and addressed all of our concerns. She showed so much care for our little family and even gifted cat toys for home that they’re now obsessed with! Best vet trip yet & worth every penny.

Just wanted to add an additional update. The owner of this practice put my dog's life in jeopardy. In my previous review I detailed my impressions in '23 which I held back from publishing until our physicals in at the beginning of '24. So one of my dogs has a prescription that is very necessary for the maintenance of their health. After paying $1,000 for their annuals I had my words with the owner and I was honest about my disappointment but respectful. They canceled serving my dog's without sending notice. This resulted in running out of the script and being notified by Chewey when trying to refill the vet was no longer maintaining care for both dogs. I had previously sent a copy of records to another vet so I was able to re-establish a relationship quickly. This white woman did not like the idea of a black man telling her what was what. That's fine, I've reported her to state licensing. Retaliation carries a cost...

I’m so thrilled Dr. Burke is my vet! She’s fabulous with my slightly neurotic Aussie mix - he didn’t even know he was visiting the vet, and my corgi pup, can’t remember er the last time I left any dr so happy
