I came here during the hardest time of my life and this team took the care I needed when I needed it. I will never forget the compassion and empathy the showed.

We have over 10 family members there and you almost don't want to visit because the grounds are so unkempt. It's horrible. The grassy areas are dirt and weeds, under the mausoleum walls the marble is all broken and just laying on the ground. They should be ashamed of themselves. Where are the groundskeepers?

Visited this cemetery at the Age of 12, 63 years young now. Interment highs and lows where the property owners completed no routine Maintenance. When monies are embezzled from escrow everyone suffers. Today noticed New Staff onboard…and a few renovations in progress!!! The women’s bathroom , Aretha Franklin and Rosa Parks Beautiful black & White Pictures in the Lobby. Asphalt paving has began on Roads that clearly needed Big Gretchen telling the Cemetery to Fix the Damn Roads. Customer Care exceptional…Rudy Jerry renders heartfelt service. Never has Woodlawn Service Organized a Community Butterfly 🦋 Release for Family and Friens to Attend in Memory of their L♥️VED One’s..Sam Cooke Sang 🎼 it Best….Its been a Long Time coming But I know Change Gone Come!!! Looking forward to the restoration of a once Pristine emetery tha at 12 years old made me think 🤔 it was A Golf ⛳️ Course as the Grass and Grounds were Lush, green and Beautiful. 😇🙏🏾

Dave at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit was an extraordinary person that went beyond the call of duty to help find a long lost relative. He took it upon himself to look up some information in a data bank and clear and clean the gravesite for my uncle. He followed up by sending a picture of the headstone. Great to have worked with him! Super great guy! This man knows customer service and relation relationship building. Jim Yogurtian

I’m very pleased with Woodlawn in general, but I want to speak directly about Chelle. I had been trying for almost a year to have my grandparents plot cleaned up, it’s a flat one so grass and dirt had grown around it, making it almost invisible. I spoke with Chelle and she told me she would have it cleaned up. She got back with me in the timeframe provided. And when I went out there and looked at it, it looked amazing. So thank you to Chelle and whoever did the job of cleaning it. 💞 (4 stars instead of 5 because the roads in the cemetery aren’t paved)

Chelle was so sweet and helpful. I have a family member who’s been there since the early 2000’s and chelle gave me by-far the best service. I’ve been complaining about getting their memorial together for a LONG while now and chelle did it within 2 days as well as kept me updated throughout the whole process. Shoutout to Chelle, her compassion and support!🫵🏽❤️

My experience with Woodlawn has been very unpleasant. The day of my mother’s funeral we walked through mud and stood in rain. Underneath the tent that we payed for was soaked we the family were not able to sit down. We were told that in the event that it should rain we would be inside. Not only that one of the grounds man almost dropped my mother when it came time to transfer near her plot. I reached out to Kay and she even suggested I put this issue in writing in which I wrote a letter in regards to this matter and it’s almost been a year since my mothers funeral and no one has yet to reach out to resolve this matter.
November 22nd 2023, I came to visit my mother thanksgiving eve, this was the first holiday without her. Not to far from my mom’s resting place were groundsmen, they were very loud and obnoxious and using swear words talking to one another. At some point they got very loud to where it startled me and made me turn my head to look, when this happened they acknowledged that they were wrong and apologized. However, it was still very upsetting and disrespectful for obvious reasons.
The most recent incident happened the week of July 22nd. This past June I planted flowers for my mother after being reassured that this was something I was able to do by Woodlawns office representatives. However, today I came to visit my mom which I do every Sunday and to my disturbance her flowers and decor was ran over. This was very hard to see being that I took hours planting her flowers & on Sundays I come out and water her flowers and just be with her it gives me peace especially knowing where she lays is as beautiful as she is. I’m not sure why someone would do something so evil and it was very intentional some of the items placed in between her flowers were moved other sentimental items were just ran over and destroyed. I’m very heartbroken something so beautiful destroyed without regards for the deceased or family. This is the closest I get to my mother and to know her resting place was destroyed by an individual that works for the property is very disturbing. All in all I truly wished I chose another location for my mother’s final resting place. The only reason we settled with Woodlawn is because her parents are there. Which reminds me 2 weeks ago I requested their Grave markers to be lifted and that’s yet to be done by the groundsmen.
The grounds of Woodlawn are beautiful if you can overlook the trash that is always present, I would think their concern should be keeping the grounds clean & up to par instead of destroying what families put out for their loved ones.
In 2 weeks is the anniversary of my mother’s passing, I wish this was something I didn’t have to experience with the cemetery. Please hire people with some respect for the deceased and their families.
