Evergreen Cemetery

One of the most beautiful cemeteries in the state of Maine. Well kept grounds and a peaceful walk.On a side note - I did see a ghost there in my youth, just outside the church, as I was on my walk out of the cemetery. Not that anyone would believe me without some proof, but I saw what I saw.

The largest cemetery in the city, Evergreen Cemetery lies along Stevens Ave, between Deering High School and UNE-Portland Campus. It is enormous, and there are so many little nooks and crannies, and pathways, and trails around the grounds of this cemetery, you truly feel like you have the place to yourself most days. I love going for walks and drives through this cemetery. The history that lies within its walls, the monuments and tombstones from different eras, the beautiful landscape in literally every single part of the cemetery, it is absolutely beautiful, in every season (wear boots in the spring!). An absolute must for anyone who frequents cemeteries.

December 2021 - After one visit to spend time with friends (live ones) and to see the otters, I felt compelled to give this place 5 stars. This is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have visited. It was filled with life, which seemed appropriate in celebration of those past. The wildlife, from herons to river otters, beautiful birds, flowers and tall trees. I have always thought cemeteries to be sad and depressing and run down. While I didn't walk through the entire cemetery, because I was here to see the otters, I was able to take in how beautiful and clean the area was in general.
