I first started leasing office space at the Upstart Center (UC) in 2014 after starting my company Stillwater Environmental Engineering, Inc. in May of 2013. I had worked out of my home for several months but realized quickly that I needed a dedicated office outside of my home. After viewing several local options that I found unsuitable for my needs, I was given a tour of the UC. The combination of proximity to my home in Orono (~ 2 miles) as well as to I-95, affordability, and building amenities were ideal for what I was looking for as a startup business. The last 12 years have gone by quickly but the UC has continued to meet my company's needs. We now have a staff of 8 people and several student interns from UMaine. As our staff has grown, I have been fortunate to add extra offices as needed to the point where we now occupy a significant portion of one wing of the UC building. The conference rooms are well equipped with the latest audio visual needs for in person and virtual meetings. The UC Board has also been very responsive to our requests for building improvements as they have come up, including conference room TV monitors and virtual meeting accessories, for example. In short, I would highly recommend this office space to any prospective tenants, whether established or just starting out.
