I want to recommend this beautiful facility in Bel Air. But I am not there yet. Follow up is terrible. Emails go unanswered. Nobody gets back to you or keeps you informed when they move resident, who they say is unable to make decisions for themselves... you'd think they would then alert their POA of what is going on. No assist with Medicaid app for father, no skin off my teeth... if they don't assist he simply won't be approved. I witnessed call buttons lit and staff walking past rooms never peeking in to even acknowledge they see it. Careless with their belongings. They don't speak to them, they just speak... what a dehumanizing experience. Something as meaningful as giving a hemiplegic a bib, but only one nurse had enough compassion to do it., one time when I was there. She says she does it always when she is there, but who knows? The first visiting had someone called for a crash cart on the third floor yelling first floor. Is there not a crash cart on each floor? Gal grabs it and leisurely strolls one way with it only to come back and say elevator is not working and heading to the other one. Did a family get a call that day that they lost their loved one? Do these people ever consider this could be their loved one and how it would make them feel to witness such contempt for them and their conditions. Compassion matters in this job. So does competence. I imagine folks lay there all day and may only see someone when their meals come in. And what are we paying for this? Nursing home means specialized care... this is not a lay there til you're dead home. Front desk staff are friendly. Facility is beautiful.
My wife and I are both in the Lorien in Bel Air, Md., both of us having fallen and broken our backs. At home in January of 2022. A long stint in Upper Chesapeake Hospital was followed by admission to the Long Term Care floor of the facility. I’ve had 3 strokes and a heart attack (which occasioned the fall), but we are both relatively well and happy, because we are together in the same room. (Our marriage of 51 years has not suffered). Margaret is a nurse who worked here when the facility first opened. That’s one reason we are here.
