I would give SMO 0 stars if possible. They charge way more than any other local company for heating oil. I called three other companies who said their rate was around $3, meanwhile I was charged nearly $5 for SMO. They offered no incentive to keep a long-term customer, instead took just about 30 minutes to cancel my account and I still had to call back to get proper documentation showing my account was actually cancelled. I highly recommend you do research and find a better company near you who deserves your business and treats their customers with respect.

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I was told I didn’t have authorization to handle billing or delivery and that an account was required, even though service had previously been established at this address. I was told the account was closed and might be under a prior homeowner or rental company.
The representative talked over me constantly, raised her voice, and ultimately hung up on me. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable.

If there were zero stars, that’s what I’d give them. Twice they have charged me over $600 that I didn’t ask for. In order to start discussions about a possible propane delivery I needed to establish an account and give them my credit card info. After hearing their costs, I told them I was going to research other options. So SMO charged me over $600 without permission. Their present rate is over $6 per gallon. The average rate in MD is in the $2 range. SMO said that their rate is higher because they have no hidden fees. But they couldn’t tell me why their rate is over $6.
