My wife Fran and I first filed our funeral instructions with Keeney & Basford in 1997. The following year, the agency caregiver for one of our daughters required us to have a pre-need funeral contract, pre-paid, so we made these arrangements with Keeney & Basford as well. Then on Christmas Eve 2000 in northern Virginia, a grandson tragically died at birth. When I brought him to Frederick, we were met by Richard Basford, the embodiment of caring and compassion, and under his guidance our grandson was buried in our family plot at Mt. Olivet. Just three years ago Fran and I firmed up our pre-need financial arrangements with Keeney & Basford, and then on Memorial Day this year, 2026, unexpectedly one of our daughters-in-law died in her mid-40s. A call to Keeney & Basford was quickly returned by John Reitz, who methodically led us through some unusual circumstances to ensure that her expressed wishes were honored. Is it any wonder that we would turn to Keeney & Basford time and time again? It’s because the good people at Keeney & Basford have served our family faithfully and well over the recent past, and we are supremely confident that they will continue to serve us well in the years to come.
Ryan and his staff were amazing guiding us through the process of preparing for and attending to my mother's funeral. Their caring and understanding in our very tough time made everything that much easier. Even the staff who delivered all the funeral flowers to our house between the service and the luncheon were wonderful.
