I have been taking Hot 26 yoga class with Jill for years and years. She is fabulous with all the details, corrections, encouragement, and with all of it my practice and how I feel has improved exponentially. highly recommend. Down Under is a great place for your yoga journey.
I loved it! Previous reviews mentioned moralizing or excessive philosophizing (which also drives me nuts during a yoga class ... like, it's not that deep) but there was no hint of that in the class I took with Dina. I've been looking for a close, affordable, not-hot yoga place to me after trying Corepower and Baptiste. Sometimes you just want a regular, unheated yoga where ... you don't smell everyone around you. Or the class right before yours. Down Under showed up on ClassPass and I tried the Monday morning Flow class. The facilities are clean and well-kept, and I loved the natural light in the studio. When I headed downstairs, there was no one at the check-in desk, so I was a little lost as to where the lockers were until I realized they were staring at me in the face. The props were also located outside the studio. A virtual option is available if you don't feel like coming in-person. Dina was a great instructor - warm, inviting, offered tons of modifications and encouragement for everyone, no extraneous talking, making sure the people on the Zoom were included. Also, unlike other classes, there was no sign of ego at all, and perhaps more importantly, there was SPACE to move around in and focus on yourself. With some hot yoga classes, there is barely enough room to step around the mats, and I personally get really distracted when someone's foot or hand is about to bump into me. I'd come back to try more of their offerings! PARKING: If you can't find a spot right in front, the side streets like Newtonville Ave have 2-hour options.
Down under in Newton has incredible customer service, diversity of class offerings, and the best massage therapist! The space is beautiful, like an upscale spa, and with all these amazing things, the best part is the community. The teachers, managers, students, all see each other regularly for practice and naturally bond overtime. Community after coming out of the pandemic is so important- I am so grateful for this studio!
