Gould Farm, established in 1913, is a pioneering residential therapeutic community dedicated to helping adults with mental health and related challenges. The farm's serene landscape provides a unique setting for community living, meaningful work, and clinical care. While some staff members are kind, thoughtful, and empowering, others have been criticized for being overbearing, aggressive, and hands-off when needed. Despite its good intentions, the farm's focus on finances has led to uneven treatment of residents, with those on "scholarship" receiving less attention. However, with fine-tuning and a refocused approach, Gould Farm has the potential to provide a truly impactful healing experience, making it a recommended option for those seeking care.
There is so much space to move around so other guests generally keep to themselves and there is little drama. My only complaint is that some of the lower-level staff (namely Beth, Nathan, Michael) are rude and think they have power over the guests. But the more important staff members (intake, doctors, directors) are extremely kind and professional. You will not find this same level of care from the upper-staff at Spring Lake Ranch.
Much better model than the alternative, Spring Lake Ranch. I attended both for some time, and found the staff at Gould Farm saw me for both who I am, and who I could be.A very kind, thoughtful, empowering culture, and not always but in general, wonderful people to be around.
As a child of parents who worked at Gould Farm in the 1970s-1980s, I can attest to its trusting, fun, and purposeful community setting. I never distinguished between staff and guests because we were all just neighbors, friends, community members. The more I experience the world, the more I appreciate my childhood at Gould Farm!
