“I can only rate the first call, where the removal team took my sister-in-law from the residence. If you're reading this, there is something you likely need to know. I observed and then I looked into this. Lots of people, when they think of funeral homes, think of tidy, neat rooms, staff all dressed up and a decor that makes you feel like you're checking into a high-class hotel in 1880. That's the final product. First call is the raw material, a chore, and not one to wear your best clothes. The staff, dressed presentably in semi-formal clothes, were absolutely professional, mind you. They had to close the bedroom door because the work of transfering the body onto the transport cot isn't pretty. Then you see your family member in the form of lumpy contours under a wrapper, such as a blanket. Geometry requires raising one end of the transport cot and twisting to get around corners in tight spaces. Be ready for the heartbreaking moment shortly after their departure, because the person is gone. Ceremonies come later.”
