This facility is desperately needed due to the lack of mental health and addiction resources in the BR area. Many nonviolent mentally ill individuals as well as substance abusers end up at the deplorable Parish Prison, because there is no other place for them to go. Housing these individuals at the Parish Prison is extremely expensive and ineffective. It also takes up room that could be better utilized to secure truly dangerous criminals. At the Bridge Center, this vulnerable population can be treated and dealt with in a way that will produce better outcomes for everyone.
