So twice a year they clean the grounds. Meaning everything near the headstones is removed and thrown out. They send out a letter in the mail as a reminder The past 6 years, we have had a 20lbs statue at my grandmothers grave and it was never moved even during clean up time. This year, no reminder was mailed and everything including the 20lb statue of St Paul holding baby Jesus went missing. Come to find out, the ground keeper takes everything and places it in a random area behind the mausoleum. I was able to find 2 things but the 20 lbs statue is missing. Heaven knows what will happen to me for bestowing the ultimate rating on a Catholic cemetery not known for its number of Italian souls in residence, but this particular place is totally deserving. Located almost across the street from Cantigny, Assumption Cemetery seems to be able to push the envelope against Diocesan rules and regs and they do it in a wonderful way. Finally, a Catholic cemetery that exists for those its supposed to exist for: the bereaved. From the lay out of the land, to the congenial and late staying office staff; from the no holds barred personalized and often decorative displays to the deceased, it appears that anything goes, but in a tasteful, joyous... read full review
