My wife and I are first time homeowners, and several years ago we purchased a ranch house in Clarendon Hills from the 1950s knowing it would need a lot of work. It obvious that the windows were a problem. A prior owner with misplaced DIY aspirations had replaced one large window with a cheap vinyl and it was warped. The remaining windows were the original single pane windows that were long past their usable life. Prior to one of the polar vortexes, I duct-taped a garbage bag over the inside of one of the rusty basement windows (that didn’t open) and the bag billowed in like a sail. I had ice form on the inside of another window. Honestly this was just a situation we lived with, because there were so many unknowns and variables to a window replacement that there was an element of avoidance behavior and decision paralysis. Plus, the cost. But with a new baby at home, it was time to finally upgrade. Not knowing anything about Dilworth, we decided to look into them because they were only a few blocks away from us. Casey and the Dilworth team made an intimidating home investment so much easier, I wish we had done this years ago. Casey walked through the house with us on multiple occasions and cheerfully answered every basic question we had. He explained that Dilworth used their own install crew, and did not contract out the work so they could vouch for the service. He also said that replacing any rotten wood that they discovered after removing the old, crummy windows would be included in the quote. That was a huge relief to me, because I didn’t know what we would be dealing with given how permeable our old windows were. One of our problems prior to reaching out to Dilworth was figuring out the right product for our home that would be in our budget and not look cheap. Casey and Dilworth patiently worked with us to select the windows and the design we wanted. We elected to just replace the most problematic windows, and they were more than happy to scale the project to our budget. They ordered our windows to custom fit, and a few weeks later installation week was finally here. The crew finished sooner than expected and it looks like a different house. I can’t tell you want a mental load off it is to look at my windows and not feel like I’m looking at a ticking time bomb. I will definitely be calling Dilworth soon to finish the rest of the windows, because they did such a phenomenal job. So if you have been putting off windows because you’re intimidated by the cost or the scale like we were, I could not recommend Dilworth enough.
