There are two loose cats that wander the clinic. I made the staff aware my dog was not cat friendly and they did nothing even when my dog was clearly in distress and whining. They also charge more than the Belvidere animal hospital on state street. I am new to the area so I just had to take my pup somewhere fast. Not the best, and wouldn't recommend. If you can, wait a few weeks and go to a place that has higher reviews.

Called this vet in Poplar Grove and I'm happy that I did! They were able to get me in right away for my little boy. My cat as acting differently lately and he was able to determine the issue immediately. I did find the veterinarian friendly and helpful! The staff was nice as well and for me, I just loved that the dr.s cat was wandering around. Very friendly and welcoming site! I do recommend poplar grove animal clinic!

Brought my dog Bear in here yesterday for a Rabies vaccine , and, annual Heartworm medication. When I made the appointment the pleasant young lady gave me a quote of $108 Tri Gard Heartworm med and $105 for the Doctor's service and tests. The final cost was $297 !????? When my puppy walked in the cats, very friendly, were all over the office...that's OK. I expressed the fact that Bear doesn't really like cats. The Vet left the door slightly cracked in the examining room and one of the cats came in. I could see a problem, but, I had the leash firm on Bear. When the Vet came in he barely said Hello. I said Hi first. He wouldn't look at me or Bear, who was extremely stressed for the 5 minutes the Vet spent on the laptop he was attending to. He gave me a cost of $297 and left. He never petted Bear, spoke to Bear etc...ignored him. The procedure took 5 min . I put bear in my SUV and then paid the bill. I wouldn't recommend this Vet to anyone. I don' t like in Effingham , BTW, but can't make a change on here?

Highly recomend we have used them the past 3.5 years. Its a smaller clinic so when our pitty got an intestinal blockage and needed surgery Dr. Malik suggested we contact the animal hospital because he did not do that type of surgery. Every place we called was either way to expensive or they wouldn't see her because she was not established with them.We were out of options and contacted Dr Malik to discuss end of life as we did not want her to suffer. That is when he offered to do the surgery even though its not generally the type of surgery he does. Not only did he save her life but it was affordable. The entire staff cares about thier patients and that is why we drive 45 mins to see our vet.

This vet lost my friends dog. They did little to find her and took 20 minutes after she was lost for them to contact the owner. You have one job and it's to take care of dogs. Luckily after 24 hours there was a happy ending. Imagine if there wasnt....... If this review stops this from happening again or at least let's people know this could happen if they leave their dog here then it's necessary. This vet is in an area where coyotes are common and has cars driving at 60 MPH, you think you would be even more careful. Thank God Sami is home

I would absolutely NOT recommend this clinic to anyone. Despite having MANY negative reviews online, I thought of giving them the benefit of the doubt. After taking my dog there, I understand why these reviews were given. The doctor there didn't seem to address any of my concerns, but was super quick to want to prescribe medicines, B12 shots, probiotics and their brand of food. I suggested before we go that route maybe a fecal test should be done! He told me they were going to look for a bunch of things, charged me for it and then after I paid said "we checked only for Giardia." When i didnt buy into getting all the medicines (except one) he basically dismissed me. I left a professional review right away after this experience. Then, I called them back a few days later to ask a question about them medicine I did buy, I was told they didn't want to hear from me again since I didn't leave a positive review. Wow!!!!!!!

Do NOT bring your pet here. Both the current and previous veterinarians are impersonal to owners and pets. We have always felt fairly uncomfortable bringing our pets here because they genuinely seemed to lack any compassion for the animals but it was the closest option so we stayed with this clinic. Until our 9 month old HEALTHY kitten went in for a very routine declawing and neutering appointment and ended up dead due to the anesthesia they used on him. On top of this, they will charge you FOUR times the normal price for any medication you need for your animals. The insulin we give our other cat costed us $100 a vial and they neglected to inform us we could buy it at Walmart for $26 a vial instead. Would not recommend at all. Save yourself the heartache of losing a perfectly healthy pet because of a lack of pre-anesthetic testing and proper monitoring equipment for surgeries. And save your wallet from their extraordinary vet fees and prices.

Great deal for first visit being free. I was told it's because they have a new vet. Front desk lady was nice. But the vet... ugh! I brought my puppy in because I thought he might have an ear infection. The vet did not have an assistant and asked me to lift my 50 pound dog on the table and hold him the entire time. Very chaotic. First he told me that he had allergies. Then he cleaned his ears with a flush, which I had to hold the dog down for. Then he wanted to give me antibiotics even though he said he does not have an infection. He said... "just in case I can't see the infection." What?!?! The vet barely looked in his ears and did almost nothing. They wanted to send me home with $67 worth of flushes and antibiotics with no real answer. The $40 flush they tried to sell me is $18 online for the IDENTICAL product! Will never go back here and do not suggest anyone bring their pet here.

I was very pleased. My little shih Tzu has many medical problems and my current vet is retiring. The Dr spent along time with me he went over all of my dogs past medical history in detail. He gave me many options, many were natural cures. He answered all of my questions and did not make me feel rushed at all. The assistant was nice and pleasant. I will be using him from now on.

Good staff, caring, gentle and kind. Doctor is gentle and knowledgeable. The clinic is small with a home town feel but professional. They also offer boarding and grooming so I can get everything I need for my pets there.
