Easy to get an appointment that worked with my schedule. The surgery center was very convenient. Staff was kind and helpful. Procedures went well and recovery was smooth. I'd highly recommend.
This review is so long overdue mainly because I had to make sure I used every correct adverb, and adjective to describe my exprience at Krates Eye Center. To begin with I had a very rushed initial cataract removal from another eye surgeon. I want to name him, but I feel that is vindictive and I want to remain neutral. After that surgery, because I was severly myoptic(which I was not really aware of) I suffered from "unabalanced vision" which was absolutely horrible. I did have another cataract in the other eye, but this surgeon NEVER MENTION that this could be a problem until after I had the iniital cataract eye done. I had complications with the cataract removal, and I also had severe visual disturbances in the opposite eye. I had to dig into information and "advise my doctor" of what was happening. Needless to say we ended this on a not to good note. Especially, since he was leaving that practice in two weeks and I had to get another surgeon to perform cataract surgery on the remaining eye. I was so apprehensive, and just down right scared. I started this journey to find "the best of the best" to do this second eye, because I felt I had suffered needless and was at a complete loss. Hence, upon my reading I found a recommendation in the "Next door neighbor app" that was recommending eye surgeons. I happened to read a recommendation about Krates eye center. I took note of this and another place to consider for recommendation. I then preceeded to make the appointments. It took about five months to get an appointment with three physicians that I needed to interview. It was my appointment with Dr. Krates, that had my was "gut" shouting "this is the guy, he is confident, reassuring but not overly cocky about his ability. However, to make sure that the outcome (with the severe bllurriness and vision being unbalanced), did not result in another issue he referred me to a Retina Specialist. This was the best call he could make. He saw something in my history, and from speaking with me, that caused him to refer me out BEFORE any surgery to be considered. I went, and once again referred to another specialist at Univ Of Illinois. He advised mr to proceeded without further hesitation yet and cleared me to get the second surgery. Dr. Krates, was just simply magnificient. He knew there was possible a cogential issue and knew that this had to be addressed before he proceeded. Once the second surgery was schedule and he ran into an issue about stunting, at the time of surgery, he gently spoke to me and advised that this would not be the best thing to do because of the condition of my eye. I understood. After the surgery he apologized, and explanied to me again, why he just could not do that proceure since it might have cause my vision and recovey period would be a lot longer and the results may not be optimal. I cried and thanked God for his foresight. He was absolutely correct in his assestment. I found this out when I saw the specialist who had to diagnose my issue, which was a genetic disorder. Dr. Krates, saw something, did something and for that I am grateful that I followed my "gut" and selected this physician and his wonderful practice to give me the best vision that could have occurred. Thank you Dr. Krates and his Beautiful Staff for being just who you are. If anyone can read this long, long review.. Rest assure it took me six months to do this. This practice is the real deal... NO BS.. NO OVERSELLING PATIENTS, JUST PLAIN HONEST TRUTH WITH EXCELLENT SURGICAL RESULTS.PS.. They also send their patients an unexpected plant of lovely flowers the day after surgery. Dr. Stephen Krates is phenomenal at what he does. He has changed my life. I am beyond grateful for Dr. Krates and his team. By being one of his youngest patient, age 34, I was not sure of what to expect with cateract surgery. Dr. Krates reassured me that all would be well and that I would be very pleased with the results. I can now SEE better than I have ever seen in my life. I highly recommend Dr. Krates and his team. They were very attentive before, during and even after surgery. You will not be disappointed.
