About Recreation Center of Highland Park
The Recreation Center of Highland Park is a great place to take classes, with excellent and friendly staff, as well as top-notch instructors. It provides good value for money, with facilities that are generally well-maintained, including clean locker rooms. However, some lockers are broken and the atmosphere, while mellow, could benefit from a refresh. The gym has been overhauled and the equipment is now competitive with other facilities. The pricing is currently excellent for Highland Park residents. However, early closing times on weekends and a lack of direction from management regarding cleanliness and disinfection are areas for improvement. Overall, it is a recommended facility but could benefit from better management.
Writing this review to give massive thanks to Deloris specifically. I was passing through highland park & stopped at a random beach for a quick second to take a picture. I kid you not, not even 5 minutes from the time I parked I was already issued a parking ticket. It's honestly so sad because it's almost like Highland park doesn't like visitors or atleast that's my first impression. Anyways, I came to the recreation center to see if i can have the ticket voided & not ONLY did Deloris understand & void my ticket but she went as far as to recommend me another beach with free parking & went into detail about everything else they offer. Thank you so much Deloris & I hope this gets back to you.
Jaun is the best and I loved working out at the rec center because of the shut down I miss both Jaun and Caitlin so much and the rec center so much it was awesome going there for a bit
Gym has been ENTIRELY overhauled (2019) and competes, equipment-wise, with just about any gym/facility. Pricing is currently excellent ($39 monthly for HP residents) and there's a push for members after the pandemic (rightly) shut things down. A star is lost for early closings: 8 pm on Fridays and 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. That's untenable for me, so uncomfortable for my schedule on the weekends. Beyond, irritating is an apartment lack of direction from the top of Park District management. There's no one cleaning equipment, an essential (it's flu season) at every fitness facility. Disinfectant dispensers are sometimes empty while a few staff sitting are at desks (nice people) and seem to have nothing to do. Other than hours it's a nice facility but needs some direction and management. Still recommended.
