My family discovered Dr. Pirtle in 2000 with our beagle. Pupper had been shot by a pellet and our vet couldn’t see him urgently so we took him to Pirtle after calling around. Dr. Pirtle saved Puppers life! Years later when Pupper got cancer Dr. Pirtle gently put him down. I remember him saying “he’s gone” as compassionate as possible afterwards. I’ve stayed with Dr. Pirtle ever since. I moved to Marion for a few years and drove my beagle Rider to keep up the trend, when friends said I was “nuts” for driving 35 miles one way for Rider to see a Vet. Dr. Pirtle is a treasure and DQ has been so lucky to have him. I trust him with everything he recommends for my dogs. He’s gentle, he smiles, and you can tell that he is very passionate about his job. That’s something money can’t buy, especially nowadays.

Been taking my animals there for years and we now have a 10 week old puppy. That's got parvo, so we've had her at the emergency room in Lakeside.Which is phenomenal everybody. They are excellent. The problem now is they don't have overnight stay so I called Saint Francis animal hospital where I've taken all my pets and they would not take her in knowing that she needs the help and knowing that we want to keep our business local. They said they were booked for 2 weeks. And wasnt even gonna try to fit her in.
So now we're up a Creek without a paddle. I did not know Saint Francis.Animal hospital operated that way. I thought when there was a pet in distress that they would take it in and get it back on the mend if it was possible I didn't know that was not the case. Just when it come down to not making room or the time and that's fine. We're going somewhere else. From now on we'll be going to Doctor Speers, in Carbondale, their excellent.Their staff is very welcoming understanding and they do make room for your pet. We will be giving them at Speers Animal Hospital all of our 5 dogs and 1 cat. Never been treated with such respect and they are easy to work with... for all your pet needs . And if they can't take care of your pet then they will find someone to help you. They don't leave you high and dry. I have never seen such disconcern from a vet like we have from St. Francis Animal Hospital ... not a very helping place for the community.

I have been bringing both of my kitties here since they were kittens 6 years ago! Recently one of them became pretty sick and Dr. Pirtle took the time to talk to me on the phone about it and when i brought her in he gave her meds and ran some tests and she was better within days. They have also had small issues in the past that have always been cared for and treated perfectly. I recently moved out of perry county, but i still make the drive with my kitties so they can come to see him.

Said they would call back repeatedly about a stray kitten with a broken leg that I wanted to save.i offered to help pay if they would place the cat in a home. Saint Frances isn't he the saint that helps animals?
