Fernando is the real deal. His barbershop has this rare quality where anyone can walk in and immediately feel at home - no intimidation, no disconnect, just a genuinely welcoming space with a cool retro vibe (and great music).
The haircut alone is worth five stars, but what keeps me coming back is Fernando himself. He's charismatic, easy to talk to, and the kind of person who makes you leave in a better mood than when you walked in, mostly because this guy is an actual comedian. I've been to many other barbershops in Chicago and you don't find a place like this anywhere else. I can't recommend Mona Lisa Fades enough.
I have been going to this barbershop for some time now. Sosa is a very skilled barber, but it's more than that. He puts you at ease with his humor and wit. The music is a custom mix tailored for the 80's vibe that is already established in the decor. It's like your allowed to step back to a golden era of your childhood and reminisce.
What truly sets this place apart for than anything is the no judgment culture. You can have a real conversation with someone who has a unique perspective, and leave feeling good about the interaction. Definitely worth the experience.
I come about every two weeks and the service is exceptional. Angel does a really nice fade and I always leave feeling confident and fresh. Fernando runs a clean and chill shop and it’s always a pleasure bantering with the two of them.
