Wasn't thrilled with a residential asbestos abatement job they did for me back in 2017. They used a commercial-grade mastic solvent when they removed asbestos tiles, leaving the residence stinky for weeks. They also did a sloppy job on some of the larger areas of mastic, so they came out a second time to touch-up spots--this time, they brought a solvent specifically for occupied residences that didn't smell. It took three cleaning crews and a layer of poured concrete before the smell dissipated completely. My tips for asbestos removal: * Get everything in writing that includes what happens if they find something like a double layer of flooring. * Make sure workers show you a "Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Evaluation" for the mastic solvent and labeled "No Odor" BEFORE THEY START!!! * Current Chicago ordinances require two companies to complete an asbestos abatement job: one company to get the flooring and mastic removed and another company to come in and test the air quality.
