There were two primary drivers that convinced me to participate in the Clear Path Wellness Program. First were vague, disconcerting physical and mental symptoms. I was struggling with low energy and anxiety. Lack of mental clarity was a huge concern with increased incidents of forgetfulness, word finding errors, and general brain fog. The second driver was our health care system. My experience with the health care system was conflicted. I have lived with a chronic illness (Crohn’s disease) throughout my adult life. While I am thankful for treatment received that was life saving, it became apparent to me that our health care system is also chronically ill. The system is reactive, overly reliant on medication for symptom control. It is costly, prohibitively so for many people. The only solution I could find was to be less reliant on a broken system and to take control of my own health. For many years, I would venture forth on a path to a healthier lifestyle, armed with current information and the best of intentions....only to “fall of the wagon” in a matter of months, or weeks, or days. Enter the Clear Path Wellness Program. My husband and I joined the program in August 2017. No more taking “potshots” at my health. The program is not one-size-fits-all but rather personalized and customized. The staff is excellent. Dr. Goldman is the most caring and empathetic physician I have met. She engages me as a participant in my health care. She is encouraging and optimistic. The dietitians (Meg and Megan) are invaluable with information that is current and functional. The coaches (Jen and Amanda) have become friends, always encouraging and resourceful. The educational resources and groups are informative as well as supportive. Have I taken control of my health? Yes. As cliche as it sounds, I have learned that adapting a healthy lifestyle is a process. I have learned to take one step at a time and expect that the process will be continually evolving and expanding. A quote used by the staff of Clear Path Wellness is “Perfect is the enemy of good.” I am doing good. I have energy. I keep stress at a minimum. Anxiety is gone. I have improved mental clarity. Important to me, I feel equipped to face the challenges of aging. I have made a lifestyle change. I am grateful.
