Co-signed a student loan for my daughter with Mountain America Credit Union. Then unfortunately ended up making most of the payments for the loan. But, the main problem came when Mountain America would not attach the social security numbers to the loan so the interest could be tax deductible. We spoke to branch numerous times after our accountant inquired about why they were not following IRS protocol for student loans. Only once did they follow through with speaking to corporate about making the correction, then still denied the request. Because of the way the student loan was handled we lost few thousand dollars in tax right offs.
