“I could not recommend this business more highly!!! I have been bringing my dogs to Hair of the Dog since moving back to Grinnell in 2021 and have had nothing but the most fantastic experiences with them! One of my dogs is utterly impossible when it comes to nail trims and I can hardly keep track of how many different places, both before moving to Grinnell and since, that have utterly failed at giving him a good nail trim - especially one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg AND have me doing as much wrestling with him as the groomer! The staff at Hair of the Dog, however, have been extremely open to trial and error until we finally figured out the best way to get him in and out with minimal effort and stress, all while keeping the costs EXTREMELY reasonable. My other dog is a senior with special needs (deaf, blind, and incontinent - perfect trifecta!) and requires periodic grooming sessions, which the staff does quickly, with great care, and charges HALF of what I am used to paying for a similar cut at other groomers. My kids like her to have a slightly non-standard cut for her breed, which they always remember and perform beautifully.

I'd also like to take a moment to address the slew of 1-star reviews this business has for any prospective customers who read them and have judged Hair of the Dog harshly as a result. I do not know details of this incident, so I cannot speak to the veracity of the claim. However, it is important to note that these reviews speak to ONE incident that may or may not have happened while the dog was at this business over two years ago. Grinnell is a typical small town, in which half of the population is related in one way or another and in which people form tight relationships and FIERCELY defend their own - particularly against outsiders. ONE person was able to rally enough additional friends and family to spam this business with negative reviews - a business run by a couple who moved here from out of state and are trying to make their home in this beautiful community in central Iowa. Just keep that in mind as you pass judgment and decide whether to patronize this (in my opinion) FANTASTIC business.“
