“I have been seeing Dr. Wanzek for over 5 years. I decided to give him a try on a recommendation. I was suffering greatly from severe back and neck pain, and could not receive proper care from any other primary doctor I had seen in Council Bluffs or Omaha, over a period of about 2 years. When I went to him, I had already had 3 back surgeries that not only didn't alleviate any pain, but had left me partially paralyzed and in severe pain 24/7. I couldn't get any doctor to prescribe me anything stronger than Tramodol, or even refer me to a pain specialist. I was desperate for someone to help me! From the very 1st visit, Dr. Wanzek (and staff) made me feel welcome, heard, cared for, and hopeful. He treated me w nothing but the utmost respect. He treated me like a human being. We worked together to try and get my pain under control, but by no fault of his, it wasn't working, despite his valiant effort. He was the 1st and only doc willing to prescribe actual pain-relievers in the midst of the opioid crisis, when most other docs went to a zero script policy. (Please keep in mind, that I did my part as a responsible pain patient, and took my meds as prescribed. Don't assume he just handed them out willy nilly... He diligently researched my history and verified my current condition, making sure I was legit and spent time w me. Anyway, I needed needed serious pain relief badly and had medical conditions that warranted using these strong meds for treatment to improve my quality of life.) I had a herniated disk pressing on my spinal cord and Cuada Equina Syndrome, which causes loss of feeling in the legs, nerve damage, and massive amounts of pain. When we realized that I needed more interventional treatments and stronger drugs, he referred me to a pain specialist so I could get the care I needed and only they can provide.I see him to this day and take all 3 of my children to him as well. I trust him completely w our care. He's kind, professional, respectable, and will do whatever he can to get to the bottom of what's wrong. He's not afraid to fight for us, and has advocated for me on several occasions. I can usually get an appointment as early as the same or next day, and he allows patients to walk-in for shots and simple labs like blood draws. He's also available most of the time after hours, through his answering service. I've had to call after hrs a handful of times over the last 5+ yrs for various urgent matters. He was helpful every time, and never made me feel out of line for calling.We plan to continue to see Dr. Wanzek as long as we can. I highly recommend him and Bluffs Family Healthcare for your medical needs that a primary physician provides. Thanks for reading my novel of a review!“
