Caution: This is a "Very tiny barbershop". No ambience. I'm a senior citizen, so the 15$ haircut was awesome . Grace is a friendly Grandma. You go in get haircut, pay and tip!
I've been to many different barbers in Honolulu over the years. Sometimes individual barbers moved on or businesses closed. Others I tried for a while but perhaps the vibes weren't right. I did find a place in Kaimuki I liked, but things changed ever since COVID. And since I no longer live there, I've been checking out different shops closer to home in the Ala Moana area. Near the end of last year, I was in need of a haircut. I searched Yelp for a barber close by and began checking out a few. Grace Barber & Hair Salon came up and it sounded sort of familiar. I phoned her on impulse and asked if she was available. She suggested a time later in the day. As is usual for me, I arrived a few minutes early but she was already sitting outside her shop waiting. We talked a bit while she was cutting my hair. My hairstyle is simple and so she was done in no time. I paid (it's cash only) and made my way home. Now for the real test, the spouse test. My wife liked how my hair turned out and suggested I decide on her from now on. Today was my second appointment and Grace recognized me right away. I asked if I could leave a review of her shop on on Yelp and would it be okay if I took some photos. She said that would be nice and gave me her business card. Her card indicates she's been in business since 1988. Upon returning home, my wife again said that my hair turned out great.
The earthy vibe of the interior will set you at ease once you step into this small, narrow shop located at the Ewa corner of the newly renovated Kapalama Shopping Center. Grace was very sweet & sent compliments to both my boyfriend & I once we stepped foot into her humble abode. My boyfriend decided to get a quick cut & uttered the phrases "fade on the bottom" & "you can do whatever." In less than 30 minutes he got a fresh, clean cut & all slicked back. Even though he wasn't specific on what hairstyle he wanted, he came out looking more handsome then ever thanks to Grace. I'd consider this a "semi-luxurious" barbershop for men only because I'm comparing it the rundown shops my boyfriend usually goes to. Plus, it's also a salon so Grace offers hair services for women as well. If you're in the area needing a quick cut for a reasonable price, go to Grace Barber & Salon!
