“I have been a patient of Dr. Smith's team since 2008 along with my husband and children. We even have recommended them to our extended families and they see them also. Every visit we are greeted with warm smiles and genuine concern for our visits. Recently my son swallowed a foreign body object. As soon as his school called me I went picked him up and took him to VFM and seen Blake. He did the normal protocol. Examine and x-rays. Blake confirmed he did swallow the object and it was in his stomach after review of the x-rays. Blake provided us with a treatment plan and scheduled x-rays for the following day to hopefully see the object had made progress in moving through the GI tract or had been passed. Unfortunately the 2nd set of x-rays showed the object was still in his stomach. Now what to do? Blake consulted with Dr. Smith, Wendy and Johnna. They further reached out to a local GI. They all agreed it would need to be removed. They suggested we go to a children's hospital to have our son further treated. The ER staff at the children's hospital we went to disagreed with Dr. Smith's team's opinion. They sent us home to wait for our son to pass it. The next morning Blake personally reached out to us and suggested going to our local ER and have them transfer us from hospital to hospital to no avail. Once again the attending doctor that day disagreed. Well Blake didn't take no for an answer. He spent the rest of the day and the next reaching out to Pediatric GI's and found one willing to see our son. After what was the longest week ever we seen a Pediatric GI at Shands in Gainesville. He confirmed the object needed to be removed. He completed an endoscopy on our son that same day and removed the object. Dr. Smith's team went with their gut and didn't give up making sure our son got the care he needed. This team of physicians are outstanding! They are compassionate about their jobs and patients. We are blessed to have them as our doctors.“
