Port City Animal Hospital is the best place for my dogs and they love seeing Dr. Faris! They always take exceptional care of my four-legged children.

The staff here are so sweet and they love what they do! My Raven will definitely not have any issues visiting her Vet. They will love on your babies and give lots of treats. My 10 week old puppy didn't even notice when she was getting a vaccine. I highly recommend!

I can’t recommend Port City Animal Hospital enough. Dr. Faris treated my dog’s periodontal disease, and the difference has been amazing. While he ended up losing most of his teeth, he is noticeably happier and more comfortable now. The staff was compassionate, communicative, and made a stressful situation much easier to navigate. Truly excellent care from start to finish.

Dropped my dog during pregnancy. Unprofessional and potentially dangerous.
I am sharing this experience so other pet owners, especially breeders, can make an informed decision before trusting this practice with a reproductive case.
Dr. Claytor was our local repro vet during my girl's pregnancy - a case being overseen by Dr. Leigh McBride, a highly specialized theriogenologist who was also performing the surgical insemination. When Dr. McBride established the pre and post-surgery protocols required for the procedure, Dr. Claytor openly disagreed and threatened to stop seeing us rather than defer to the specialist overseeing the case. She ultimately said she needed to call her own mentor - also a theriogenologist - before making a final decision.
Even after being corrected by her mentor theriogenologist on multiple occasions, Dr. Claytor continued to take an aggressive, threatening approach rather than a collaborative one. She issued ultimatums over the wormer protocol with a 24-hour deadline. I complied fully, and she still dropped us as clients - in the midst of an active pregnancy.
What made it worse was that the staff followed her lead. The dynamic shifted noticeably, and what should have been a supportive care environment began to feel hostile and cliquish. I do not blame the staff entirely - they are put in a difficult position - but the tone from the top set the tone throughout. This may be why the staff scored this practice with an overall 2.8 on Indeed.
Abandoning a patient during pregnancy, particularly when specialist care is involved, is not just unprofessional - it is a patient safety issue. I am considering reporting this to the appropriate veterinary board.
Before choosing this practice especially for reproductive care, I'd encourage you to read the reviews on both Yelp and Indeed. The patterns there are consistent with my experience and worth considering.
I want to be fair: the other DVMs at this practice have received strong reviews, and I believe the issue is specific to this one doctor. But if you have a complex reproductive case, I would strongly encourage you to seek care elsewhere. The extra 15-20 minute drive to another reproductive vet is absolutely worth it.

We loved our visit at Port City! We specifically picked out this vet, because they’re fear-free. We’ve had bad experiences at previous vets that left one of our dogs very nervous when going to the vet. Dr. Claytor and the tech were sooo good with my nervous dog. He actually had a good experience and got lots of love and treats. Dr. Claytor was very thorough and great with answering questions. Getting our flea and tick prescription was also super easy through their online pharmacy, and very reasonably priced!
