I got a pretty bad concussion in high school, and I was in denial about how debilitating my symptoms were, until I started coming to GCNC. With the doctors here, I started seeing improvement in my quality of life, and I almost didn’t think that was possible. After my head injury, I had chronic headaches, disassociation issues, terrible spatial awareness (not being able to turn a corner without running into the wall type bad). I started struggling severely in school with retaining information. The difficulty was apparent in my grades, and that was difficult for me because I performed very well academically before the head injury. My perception of the world around me changed, light was brighter, sound was louder, processing information took longer, completing simple tasks completely drained my energy. I often felt crazy because what I was experiencing was not talked about. The thought “am I loosing my mind” was not unknown to me. For example, the moments like noticing my curling iron still plugged in and on hours after I “remember” turning it off, that I already had three cups filled with water in my spot, which I didn’t seem to recall or notice as I was filling up my fourth, that the memory I had of a certain event was not truly what happened, or that the event itself didn’t happen to begin with. It can be scary because it made me question reality. I told myself that my body would naturally heal over time, because that is what I had to believe to push through. It’s bizarre how people, even doctors, would see me struggling, and think oh she’s just having an “off day”, or she’s being dramatic. My sister originally came to GCNC to be treated for POTS, I came with her to get an examination, and I am so thankful I did. My mom pushed me to come because she noticed the changes in me. The truth in my hesitancy is I didn’t want to deal with another failed doctors appointment, or be told “there is nothing we can do.” There was in fact much they could do. I have been a patient on an off with GCNC for the past four years (mostly during summers because of college) and I am now about to graduate college, and I feel very capable to exist without doubts of my abilities. These doctors are now my honorary family. I’m very thankful not only for my progress, but the company I have had along the way. Keep your head up there is hope.

I went here for treatment for a brain injury for close to two years. While they did an excellent job of evaluating me and seeing steps of progress I would recommend you avoid coming here. I would look at places that do the same thing and choose one of them even if you have to travel. If you do decide to come here I would see any doctor other than Dr. Campbell and Dr. Ellis. After hearing for weeks from Dr. Campbell about how much progress I was making this past summer and how fast other things are starting to click into place (and seeing that progress for myself) all of a sudden she cancelled my appointments on the way there (3 hr drive), called and said she couldn’t progress with me any further. How it goes from one week telling me all the progress I was making and scheduling appointments for the next three months to the next week her saying is stuck and can’t get me any further is very baffling to me. She also did not handle the situation in a very professional manner. I add Dr. Ellis to this post because he was there and approved of all this. I have friends in the medical field and they couldn’t believe how these doctors acted. I had absolutely no hope coming here after being told this would just be my life from neurologist. Dr. Campbell gave me hope of getting my life back. I trusted her as a doctor and seeing how she treated me as a patient at the end just proved to me more so that doctors don’t care. I say to avoid here and these doctors so other people’s hopes don’t get dashed. I saw great steps of progress. There were things Dr. Campbell was doing that gave me pain relief from the rain pressure and from sharp knife stabbing place - only Dr. Campbell was able to do that. I have had a lot of the pain come back since I’m no longer seen there as a patient. Dr. Campbell did so much to help me. I don’t discount that. I believe in the treatment they do but there are other places to go to and other doctors at this place to see. Doctors who do care - I firmly believe they exist. I just hope these doctors learn from this and don’t treat other patients in the same way. I don’t want other people hurt by them or see light of having a life back only for it to be pulled away from them like they did to me. Please go somewhere else!
