I’ve been a student at Kick Start Martial Arts since I was 9 years old, and it truly feels like a second family. Earning my 3rd degree black belt has been an incredible journey filled with both challenges and personal growth. At the studio, we emphasize discipline and push everyone to be their best. While this can be tough for newcomers, those who stay dedicated truly thrive. Under Master Beaty’s guidance, I gained vital self-defense, leadership, and communication skills. I even earned my first job as a Kyo Sa Nim (Lead Instructor), which allowed me to mentor dozens of students as young as 5 and make a real impact on their lives. I still have cute drawings and cards from some of my younger students to this day. As a Black woman in America, I feel safer heading off to college in a couple months knowing I have the life skills to thrive in any space. I love Kick Start Martial Arts, the people there, and the community we’ve built. I am so grateful to have found not just a gym or a afterschool club, but a second home. Tang Soo!

Kick Start Martial Arts & Master Beaty run such a great program. We had a great experience while taking lessons. My kids definitely remember it well even years after they moved to different activities. They have a great location & space. And I love that Kick Start has been in the neighborhood for so long and has been a strong supporter of our schools & community. So glad they are in the neighborhood!

Master Beaty is very good with young undisciplined youth. He is certainly a true master of his craft, not just in martial arts, but also interpersonal. I witnessed him change a kids disrespectful loud and rude behavior within one lesson. The kid left with love respect and knowledge. A completely brand new child. He taught him how to exercise restraint, and pose, not only for the arts but in life. I respect Master Beaty greatly ?

KSMA has been a great experience for our son. He started as White belt (10th Gup) and is now a Senior Red belt (1st Gup). Sa Bom Nim Beaty and the KSMA instructors are amazing with the students across all levels. They possess a style of discipline that is respectful, strict, and empowering at the same time to help students progress. They also provide an environment that allows students to work on their leadership skills by helping their peers and those with lower Gups.
We definitely recommend KSMA to those looking to get their kids or themselves into Martial Arts.

Our son has been attending for 3 years and we are so grateful for KSMA. It has been wonderful to see numerous students grow, mature, hone their skills, and flourish under the leadership and peer mentorship there. I have immense respect for the studio and Master Renard Beaty.

Our daughter began KSMA in July 2022 and didn’t appear to be as interested as ‘we thought’ she should be. She only spends time with other kids during school hours (only child). After the first 3 months, she began to look forward to her martial arts classes. The student leadership was one aspect that really appealed to her. She could not believe that students her age were so confident and skilled. This soon became her aspiration. Upon being invited to join KFLO in April, she has solidified herself as being a positive leader! We are so proud to see the improvement in her confidence and self esteem. Thank you so much to Master Beaty and the other black belts that have helped my precious angel restore her value and strength of character. Worth all of the time money and travel to see her overcome bullying and other challenges she faced in school.
