Hi My name is James Askey, I'm 59 years old and I just had Total Hip Replacement Surgery at the Seaside Surgery Center in Naples, FL on 6/19/19. This is what I experienced during the day of my surgery. I am writing this just 5 days post-op. I arrived at Seaside at 8am, and after checking in and waiting a very sort time (Maybe 10 minutes), I was escorted back to the surgery prep area by the very kind and caring nurse staff. I then changed into a surgical gown and got comfortable in a bed. An IV was started and I was given something to calm my nerves. Several different nurses and doctors came in to see me and fully explained every step of the procedure to me to put me at ease. At no time did I feeling like just another patient, as every person I meet spent real time with me to get to know me and my situation as if I was the only one there that day. After I meet with everyone on staff and felt comfortable, my doctor (Dr. Zehr) from the ZehrCenter Orthopaedics came in to see me and talk about the procedure and to answer any questions I might have. I felt very informed and knew exactly what was going to happen during surgery. You see, I did a lot of homework before my surgery and in selecting the right Doctor & Procedure for me. I knew there were several different approaches to Hip Replacement surgery, and I watched them all on Youtube. After much study, I decided I wanted my surgery done by Dr Zehr and at the Seaside Surgery Center because they used the latest and what I consider the best approach - "The Anterior Approach" thru the front of the hip. Dr Zehr used the latest techniques with the most state-of-the-art equipment, including the Hana arthroplasty operating table that allows precise positioning of your legs during surgery and the ability to do real-time x-rays step by step throughout the operation. After Dr. Zehr answered all my questions, I was then moved to the operating room. Once in the operating room I was asked to breath deeply into a mask, and the next think I knew I was waking up in the recovery room. It was all over before I even knew it had happened. The Recovery nurse "Bonnie" was terrific, she took her time with me and didn't push me to get up and walk. So I took my time in letting my head clear from the anesthesia and within 2 hours of my operation I was up using a walker to walk to the bathroom. Amazing! By 2:30pm I was leaving the Surgery Center and headed back to my hotel to spend the night. While at the hotel that evening I was able to get up out of bed and walk the hotel hallways with my walker, and I was in very little pain the very FIRST DAY! I returned home the next day and have been continuing my walking and exercises more every day. I can not believe how fast my recovery is going. This was by far the best surgical experience I've ever had. The professionalism, individual care, quality of doctors, nurses, staff and the services provided thru Seaside Surgery Center were Top-Notch. I could not of asked for a better experience or outcome. Thank you so much Dr. Zehr, your staff and the entire staff at Seaside (Audrey, Yisel, Bonita, Vivian, Vicki, Cris, Dr. Dave and Bonnie), for your excellent care and compassion in taking such great care of me.
