I am over 70. I had not danced with anyone in about 43 years. I have almost no social skills, I avoid crowds, and I would rather sit off to the side than mix. For years I was the guy who helped play the music. I never really learned to dance. I could never get anyone to take lessons with me so, after a lifelong friendship ended, I finally walked in on my own. To say that I was completely out of my comfort zone would be an understatement.
Walking in was the right call.
Krista is a great teacher. She is patient with a complete beginner who would rather hide than be on the floor. She does not rush. She actually teaches the steps, then she makes you do them until they start to stick. Her excitement is real. It is not an act, and it rubs off — even on someone like me who would rather sit out. She made the room feel safe enough that I stayed on the floor instead of heading for a chair. The rest of the staff is just as good. Nobody made me feel foolish for being late to this.
If you think you are too old, too shy, or “not a dancer,” this studio is built for that. They say they can teach anyone. In my case, that was not a slogan.
