Clay County Animal Services provides an excellent adoption experience, featuring a great group of staff who love and care about the animals dearly. The shelter has a variety of pets available, including great-looking breeds. While the location may be challenging for those without a car, the staff is willing to assist with inquiries, often calling back and leaving voicemails. The shelter requires proof of ownership for lost pet searches but offers big rewards for those willing to make the trip. Many customers appreciate the amazing staff and adorable pets, noting the shelter's importance as a pillar of the community. However, some visitors wish they could explore the shelter more freely to take their time when choosing a dog. Adopting a pet is a serious commitment, and it's important to select the right match to avoid returning a pet who has already faced challenges. This shelter is definitely worth considering for those who can make the effort.
Today I visited Clay County Animal Services everyone was so friendly, very helpful, and understanding of your needs and was honest about what they knew of each animal. I took Wallace/Wally home today! I hope he is happy with me!
Fostering animals has been such a rewarding experience, and Nancy has been amazing throughout the entire process. Anytime we’ve needed anything, had questions, or needed help with one of our fosters, she has always been there to help quickly and kindly.
You can tell she truly cares about the animals and works hard to make sure both the fosters and the families caring for them have the support they need. People like Nancy make rescue and fostering possible, and her dedication definitely deserves recognition. We’re very thankful for everything she does!

We adopted a dog, named him Georgie (formerly Chico) and he is absolutely a huge part of our family after losing my Daizie at age 15. I've taught him to sit, wait, leave it. He is incredibly smart. We go on runs and he loves the park but especially sleeping on the covers or snoring asleep in your arms. Great service, nice staff.
