Dr. Pittaluga provided a comprehensive eye exam; he demonstrated a genuine enthusiasm for the science and technology behind his profession. I opted for a retinal image scan, which can help identify early complications from diabetes, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). He demonstrated how the digital image can magnify an area of the eye up to 100 times, enabling quick detection of things like optic nerve abnormalities. Interestingly, retinal imaging can sometimes serve as a tool for early detection of general health issues, as many systemic diseases first manifest signs in the retina.
