We stayed at the JW Marriott in Aventura, FL on July 19th, and this was hands down one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had.
The room rate was about $600, but we were later charged over $1,000—with claims that we consumed gin, vodka, tequila, beer, wine, M&Ms, gummy bears, and more from their min bar. In reality, we had one mini bottle of wine. That’s it. We were traveling with our two kids and didn’t even let them touch the snacks. The charges are completely false.
What makes this worse is the shady way it was handled. This is the only Marriott stay where we couldn’t access the invoice through our Bonvoy account. We had to call—and when we did, the person we spoke to was incredibly rude and dismissive as they went over the charges. As of now, the issue is still in dispute, and we’ve received no resolution.
It honestly feels like either a dishonest employee added these charges, or the hotel is padding bills to make extra money. Either way, we don’t feel comfortable ever returning.
As for the property itself, it was a huge letdown. The water park was filthy and overcrowded. The lazy river was hot, murky, and packed with people—you could barely move without bumping into someone. Poolside service was terrible, and the overall customer service fell far below Marriott standards.
We left feeling scammed and frustrated. This experience has completely destroyed our trust in this property. We’ll never return and strongly advise others to avoid it. LOOK AT YOUR CHARGES!

The staff at Tidal Cove—especially a manager named NICK—were completely out of line. After a lightning delay, Nick was shouting directions no one could hear. When I calmly let him know we had been waiting by the slides the entire time, he aggressively and publicly told us to go to the back of the line with zero explanation or respect. He was loud, rude, and completely unprofessional. It was humiliating and unacceptable, especially from someone in a leadership position. Guests deserve better.

No amenities for the people staying in the hotel. There is only one pool in the hotel that is adults only, which is pretty frustrating when I have two kids. There isn’t any other option other then going to the waterpark to deal with a bunch of day guest that aren’t staying in the hotel. If I’m staying in the hotel, I want to enjoy the hotel, not have to deal with the craziness of trying to find chairs, waiting in lines for the slides and not even being able to swim in the pool because it’s so packed. Definitely not a hotel to vacation to if you want to relax and enjoy yourself!! Then to top it off the water park was terrible!! Super packed, one slide was down the whole time and the raft lift was broken so it took us 40 min to get on the family slide. We asked and an employee said that it had been broken for a month. This is supposed to be a JW Marriott, where are the standards.

We were charged for pringles and gummy bears that we never ate. Before I could read the signs up in the room that if it’s touched you automatically get charged. As soon as we got in the room my daughter who was excited and touched the gummy bears to show me. It was never eaten and they could see that. Stop keeping items in the room where children are staying. Thank goodness she couldnt get the fridge opened because that would of been another charge. So ridiculous. I would never stay here again. Overpriced for no reason. The rooms are normal and nothing special. There is no pool for kids within the hotel only through Tidal Cove.

Terrible, pool is arround 100. extremely over sold hotel them complaining about noises in room about cant you believed they send me security to my door with a warning then he said cops is included seriously only because my kid os playing at 9pmim on vacation no one complyng definetly never go back here again i dont recomended if u have kids u can go any place but not here.waist of money also very expensive

We stay here with our kids once a year. This is the first time we aren’t happy.
We arrived today and waited 40 minutes to check in. We finally made it to the room and it was fine, though you can already see signs of aging. We asked for turn down service, they never came.
I know the water park is technically a separate thing here, but everyone comes here for the water park so I’ll include it in my review.
First, it was completely over capacity. We couldn’t find a single chair to put our stuff down. I left my shoes in the “shoe drop” near the slides (we waited at least 30 minutes per slide btw), and they were stolen! I’m honestly not surprised by this because the crowd here was… idk, not the classiest.
Finally made it back to our room, and the balcony door won’t open, the ac doesn’t work, and we can’t login to the WiFi.
Nothing about our stay has been “5 star” or “ JW” worthy. We won’t be returning.

The hotel was great. Staff was friendly, clean rooms, and restaurants were wonderful. The only problem we had was the pool/ water park area. The hotel sells day passes to residents, so even if you’re staying at the resort that doesn’t guarantee you’ll have a place to sit at the pool. It’s entirely overcrowded, you’re fighting for chairs, service is so slow due to the amount of ppl, this really takes the fun out of vacation. For that reason we will not be back. This is the first time we’ve experienced this at a JW property.
