We have lived in our home for almost 40 years. We never had a move that would have forced a downsizing. I also have a history of over-shopping and of being a “collector of things.” Over time both our garage and our lower level became the repository for “what if” items (maybe someone will need it someday), for yard sale and online auction items, for entertaining items, for frames and artwork, for yet-to-be given presents. Our basement used to be a playroom for our kids when they were younger. Sadly, it soon became uninhabitable for anything but an occasional small rodent. Our overall goal was to return the basement to a playroom for the next generation. My day of organizing was a surprise birthday gift from my siblings. So thoughtful! Matt, the owner, started the process with a zoom call and a home visit to review our objectives, scout out the spaces, and explain the process, which was very helpful to calm my nerves and provide a roadmap for what was to happen. On the day of the event, Matt arrived with three lovely women (Kiersten, Gab and Karen) who arrived to complete the process, which was very well planned and executed. They made it easy for me by establishing zones, preparing the items for review, inviting me down three or four times to make the decisions by presenting each item (discard, donate, sell, give away and keep) and then taking it to the proper zone. I particularly appreciated the pacing of the day. Although I thought it would be an anxiety-producing experience it wasn’t at all due to a solid plan, excellent execution and wonderful results. The icing on the cake (maybe the cake!) was how friendly, fun and helpful the ladies were. Thanks to them, what I thought would be an anxiety-producing day was turned into a productive, positive day, My husband and I were gobsmacked when we walked down the stairs and saw the results. The floors and counters were clear for the first time in 25 years. The garage was also far cleaner and better organized than the past, when we couldn’t fit a car in the space. We were shocked at the results: how much went to the dump, how big the pile of items to be donated was, and a smaller pile of things we might sell. They shared resources of organizations to help us donate and sell and offered to contact them on our behalf. We are proud of ourselves for accepting your help and making as many “out-the-door” decisions. We are pleased to donate the many items we selected to organizations that can get them to people who can use them. Each time we walk through the areas we worked on, we get a rush of pleasure seeing the results. And, best of all, our grandkids are very excited to have their own place to play at Yaya and Grandpa’s house. Thank you Matt and Company
