Self Service Car Wash is a no-frills and very dated DIY facility. It operates 24x7 and is fairly accessible. The business has a number of washing and drying stations, with equipment that is always ready to use, clean, and works well. Brushes, sprayers, and such are all kept in good order. Everything is coin operated, using small dollar coins, and the coin machines work well. However, the change machine does not take twenty-dollar bills. There are no time meters, so users must learn by experience, and a full deep cleaning may take more than two cycles. A common drawback is that visitors usually have to wait, as the place can be busy and would benefit from being a little bigger. The location is along the train tracks, an area noted for many homeless people and shady characters. The hose can be used to keep them away if they approach to beg for money. There are no attendants for assistance in the morning. Overall, it provides a low-price option for those who like to wash their car themselves.
Everything coin-operated in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria & Goleta is a joke. It doesnt matter if it's a vending machine dispersing snacks, laundromat washers and dryers, stamp machines, bubble gum machines, self-serve car washes, etc
The owners of these businesses let their equipment deteriorate until its absolutely falling a part before they consider fixing it. The owner of this car wash is a prime example of the mentality described above. Many of these coin operations profit off of faulty equipment and/or rigging them to short change or completely steal money from the paying public. Getting money refunded is non existent. Dated coin system with no meter or timer so you have to guess when you're running out of time. Options are lacking in the panel and hoses leak so you end up getting soaked too. The final nail was the dispenser for paper towels and air freshener ate money. No attendant or number in sight.
$4 for 4 minutes but not sure if I believe that...
Edit : May 15 2025. 5 minutes on Bay 2 cost me $7 (I timed it). Just saying. 😂
They don’t take 20 dollar bills! And no quarters, no credit cards. I guess I’ll have to come back.
