I have been training with Sensei Rhodes for over 2 years and I find Koei Kan Karate to be a great mix of tradition (kata/forms, weapons) and practical application (kumite/sparring, self defense). Sensei’s 30+ years of experience are evident in his methods of instruction.

I have been training since 2008. I’m a first degree black belt. My husband and I also have our dojo that stems from San Luis dojo at our home! Sensei Rhodes has been my teacher since then! I highly recommend!

Sensei Rhodes, Ogden, Roberts, and Fisher all bring different elements to the dojo. With a traditional Okinawan base, and a flexible training schedule, Koei-Kan Karate do is an incredible place to train.

Koei-Kan Karate-Do is a traditional, well-rounded martial art. It is a contact discipline, incorporating weapons-training, submissions, along with conventional punches, strikes, and kicks. The San Luis Obispo dojo was first established in 1993, operating continuously since; it's been at its present location since early 2012. It offers professional-level instruction by several black belts, headed by chief instructor Shihan Larry Rhodes, Go-Dan. Classes for both juniors and adults. You train to your own level, from complete novice to advanced practitioner. Two free trial lessons are offered.
