SoMa Animal Hospital

I haven't seen anyone mention bunny neutering yet, so I thought I'd share my experience! SOMA animal hospital took wonderful care of my 5 month old boy Mack. They did a thorough pre-procedure process with labwork and lots of aftercare info. He was given meds with easy instructions and was handled so carefully and they were in touch with me the whole process of the neuter. I was terrified just because of how delicate rabbits are under anesthesia, but they did such a great job and he had zero issues post-op.
The one thing I will say is this specific animal hospital is extremely expensive compared to other exotic vets in SF, but it's worth it if you want proper care. I would rather spend 1 grand and have my baby safe and taken care of than spend $600 somewhere else and put my baby in danger.

Fantastic staff, service, and facilities. They were So sweet to my nervous dog, very clear about pricing and plan for care, and seemed to be a cohesive, positive team. Very glad to find them and totally trust them with my babe’s health.

I can't say enough amazing things about this veterinary clinic. Dr. Johnston, Dr. Wood, and Dr. Crawford have all been incredible with both my cat and my dog.
I especially want to give a heartfelt shout-out to Dr.
Crawford. A few months ago, my cat was very close to crossing the rainbow bridge, and I brought him in for an urgent visit. It was Dr. Crawford's quick thinking, expert decision-making, and calm nature that saved my cat's life.
It was an incredibly emotional day, and Dr. Crawford showed so much compassion while guiding me through the best decisions for my cat. He and his staff stayed with me until almost 10 p.m., waiting for the veterinary ambulance to arrive and transport my cat to the hospital.
How amazing and sweet of them!
Because of their dedication and care, I still have my sweet old man with me today--and he's doing well.

Wonderful vet, very professional. Took care of everything we needed

Overpriced, bougie run of the mill veterinary care. Just Transactional and not very sympathetic. They Let me down during an emergency with my dog. After going there for a couple years I was treated like a stranger that didn’t matter during an emergency. Don’t count on them, they don’t have your back in a crisis.

Very cold, uncaring disposition from his staff. I thought I was building a lifelong relationship with my dogs vet, but they don’t want that they just want your money unfortunately. Might as well visit a robotic vet.

If you complain at all to staff, you’re blacklisted and never allowed to speak with a veterinarian again to tell him what’s happening. His staff is why I no longer trust them and will no longer go there.

Not nice gatekeepers at this establishment.i must have pissed off someone there that blocks me from vet care or speaking with the vet. If they don’t prefer you, they will let your animal die.

Major breach of any trustworthiness. Beware in an emergency

I take my senior rabbit here for the past almost 6 months and have never had a bad experience. They are available by text which is incredibly convenient and everyone ive interacted with has been so kind and helpful. They also do the checkup on my rabbit on the floor where he is most comfortable and I think that is beyond amazing.

Updated the rating to 4 given the consistent good experience we had with Dr. Wood.

It’s good for wellness check but definitely not for illness. Very hard to get an appointment for my dog to be seen timely when he is sick. They also never get back to my questions in the text messages although they suggested me sending the symptoms and pictures through text. I suspect they never actually take a look. It also takes forever to be connected to a call in the first place.

We are devastated and furious with SoMa Pet Hospital and Dr. Crawford. Our dog, Cyprus, only 4 years old and my emotional support animal, went completely deaf after being prescribed Posatex ear drops here.

Dr. Crawford later admitted he failed to warn us that hearing loss is a known side effect — calling it an “oversight.” That failure has permanently changed our dog’s life and ours.

Weeks later, we’ve received nothing but delays and empty promises from the hospital. No accountability. No resolution. No compassion.

Our family is crushed. Please think carefully before trusting them with your pet’s care.

They are awesome with my elderly bunny. Explained care options and pricing clearly, communicated well through everything and the support staff is really kind and sweet. Helpful with supporting her arthritis. Very knowledgeable with rabbits. Helped her through GI stasis.

For after-hours emergency care for rabbits when they are not open, I recommend PETS Referral Center across the bridge in Berkeley.

Please do note that rabbits are considered “exotic” pets in general, so pricing can be much higher for some services than for cats or dogs.

This is the best vet in SF hands down!!!!! We take all 5 of our animals there. I have friends that also love it. They are based on Fear-free care and they deliver. They do not rush you out the door. Please give them a try. You will never regret it. Ever. All of the vets are amazing and the staff is incredible.
