Warning...bait and switch with billing..I walked in with my RX for simple blood draw and urine sample. I was a walk in cash pay patient and the girl told me she would give a discount for cash. I paid the $310.00 (not cheap but I paid it) got my blood drawn and then 3 weeks later I get a bill for $150.00 unpaid balance!! So I am told what the charges are and they have the audacity to back track and do an add on???!!!. This is unethical and illegal. When I called to dispute the charges they agreed that I paid in full but that they didn't quite compute the lab charges (BS they knew what the charges were). They said there were more blood tests than anticipated. That was BS because I gave them the referral and RX which stated what tests needed to be done. Still fighting with them on this. Don't go to Sutter Health for your blood testing ..unethical billing practices.
FLOWUP REVIEW:I Received a follow up call from the office supervisor. He was very apologetic and explained the situation about having a shortage of butterfly needles. He also said he would speak to the phlebotomist and go over some of the procedures she did not follow. I was satisfied with his courteous explanation and apology. My original complaint:I usually have a good experience at this lab...but...today I went in for routine blood tests and the experience was not so pleasant! I specifically asked the flabatomist to please use a butterfly needle, she said yes and nodded. Before I realized it, she stuck me with a larger needle and it really hurt. When I asked her why she didn't use the butterfly, she shrugged it off and said my vein was large enough fotbthe bigger needle. I said to her when a patient asks for a butterfly needle, you need to follow her instructions.I'm home 2 hours later with a huge bruise and swelling. It still hurts me.
The phlebotomists there are awesome. Since CPMC (Sutter Health) decided to cut their staff, there can sometimes be a bit of a wait. But the people are so good that I don’t mind. It’s the only lab I go to.
