3-4 stars for level of information provided by providers. They did what they could do in confines of system however, I think both practices lacked basic ethics to preserve patient experience, especially knowing how much healthcare costs can inadvertently cripple folks with bad insurance. At my prior providers, when there are additional procedures, the providers have always had the ethics to ask, "hey would you like to confirm this is covered by your insurance" - here it is either lack of responsibility, overworked behavior, or at worst a money gouging technique. I had 2 types of visits - both had failures on staff / provider not asking to confirm insurance for add-ons. Beware of trick "establishment of care visits" which a live agent schedule as a "physical" on the phone. Only after waiting in examination room 20min for doc, was I told what I was there for and told to schedule for actual physical - if I had known I would have picked a doc who didn't require this but instead now I have $300+ due 6 months later. My allergist visit was of course a specialist but the test Dr. offered to conduct "for peace of mind" after a long discussion where she knew nothing on that panel was the cause. I truly naively thought doc was looking out for me and when I questioned her after the surprise charge, she conveniently changed story and claimed the test had "medical purpose". To confirm billing I contacted provider, nurses, billing department - I was bounced around - allergist who told me I should be aware of american healthcare system - meanwhile i wondered how her being well aware of the system felt no patient responsibility. Billing was condescending and told me vaugely that "establishment of care visit must have been in fine print you signed" except it wasn't and also the phone scheduling with a live person also called it a physical. He also said depending on what is discussed they can bill you differently So now I am out ~$700 - know nothing more about my mystery allergies AND I am terrified of going to a doctor to get care and will absolutely avoid which is great for preventative care. Yes the system sucks but these types of practices do nothing to alleviate it. I am looking into switching to Sharp Rees Stealy with which I had no such problems in the past.

I am trying to reach Dr. Frankel's office today. I have been on hold for the last hour from 1:30 to 2:30 trying to reach their office. This is absolutely unacceptable! Now I am going to send the doctor a message to see if he can tell me why his staff is not answering the phone. I had such a wonderful consultation. This needs to get immediate attention! Gail K. Ignore the messages from the Patient Feedback Team. I have continued to message my doctor about the severity of my symptoms and inability to support myself. All communication has been ignored. I have authorized the CA Medical Board and the insurance provider to investigate medical fraud.
