Several years in the past, my daughter was enrolled in piano lessons at a different school. At first I thought it was great. She liked it, she went to lessons without complaining, it was ok. But she wasn't growing to LOVE music. I began looking for someone who was more encompassing in instruction, held a more fluid concern and desire for an overall education in music, and who looks at the music student as a whole, rather than only in one genre of music. And foremost, exudes a LOVE for music that blankets the students. My public inquiry was swiftly met my multiple parents who said just one name. Ruthie. Ruthie is the owner and sole operator of Music Speaks Studio. She brings years of solid knowledge in many aspects of the music world, not just teaching an instrument or voice. Her experience, combined with her passion of teaching, has created an environment of a love and genuine care and concern for each 'musician', her term for her students. My oldest daughter, I will compare to the trunk of a tree. Her classical instruction created a growing tree, but only a trunk growing straight up in one direction in several years' time. Ruthie helped create her branches (and of course, her continuation of classical music for a 'taller tree'). Her branches not only include pop music, country music, patriotic songs and a wider variety of holiday music, but also that simple and ever-lasting Happy Birthday I was so worried about years ago, and even that is jazzed up past the simple version :) Her branches also now include 'cups', made famous by the movie 'Pitch Perfect', and learning rhythm in other ways, playing in a small ensemble instead of a stricter 'one student only' format of a recital, being an accompaniment for a vocal student, and interaction of so many different types. She is now also a vocal student. It's an atmosphere of fun structure, and of a LOVE for music. Ruthie also took my youngest daughter, who has some pretty substantial ADHD and anxiety issues, and took her under her wing. Though ADHD is demonstrated in different levels, depending on the child, Ruthie works with my daughter, who fluctuates, and really tries to get in there. My youngest has come more out of her shell, has become more brave, feels completely supported by Ruthie, and is more willing to try new things. Learning is difficult for my second daughter, and she does not have an strong ear for proper rhythm and timing, and it's difficult for her to learn lyrics, but she's trying and having fun, and that's a big win in my book. My youngest has tried ukulele, cups, and this year is taking voice lessons. Ruthie adapts to different learning styles and has no hesitation in attempting another approach if a child, or adult musician/student for that matter, to see if a different pathway would work better. She keeps in good touch with the parents with conversation, and her website helps to organize lessons, the calendar and appointments, current studio news, and more. Her home studio is warm and inviting and her 'entourage' is growing in numbers. For those who are interested in piano, ukulele, vocal lessons, and more, I am providing my recommendation :) Ruthie, and her Music Speaks Studio will be a wonderful addition to your life of learning.
