I came to see Dr. Kniskern for high blood sugar issues and mild ADHD. From the first session my brain felt a difference i.e. much more focused. The brain cloud had lifted. With each session I saw improvement in the length of time I stayed focus and my productivity increased tremendously. To the point that I then needed to manage my fatigue level from taking on too much! I was just powering through my to-do list. Dr. Kniskern helped me enormously in this regard too teaching me to self-monitor my mind. My sleep improved and I was better able to turn off. When some stressful family events hit me last year I felt tremendously supported by Dr. Kniskern monitoring my stress levels. He is so knowledgeable regarding the connection between mind and body and the impact of emotions on the vital organs. He motivated me to address my emotions, especially my anger and my constant analysis so I was able to let issues go. He tracked these events and was able to show me how draining certain interactions were then in our session increased my energy levels to compensate. His use of micro-currents in my treatment has also helped my creativity and problem solving as well as bolstering my energy levels and immune system. I have not had so much as a cold in this last year of treatment with him during this stressful and draining year. Had I not been seeing him I believe I would have seen some serious health issues and possibly chronic fatigue. As for my blood sugar levels. They stabilized and I did not have to be so strict with my diet. I have referred Dr. Kniskern to several colleagues and friends all with very different issues and continue to be amazed at how much he has been able to help them from tennis elbow pain, to debilitating allergies, to recovery from hip surgery, to reducing migraines and weening off pharmaceuticals.

I saw Dr. Kniskern for a painful neuroma in my foot. He recommended a series of acupuncture treatments saying the condition took a while to develop and would take a while to relieve. After five weeks and 10 treatments with no relief, I decided to discontinue treatment. To be fair, I have been referred to other acupuncturists both before and after Dr. Kniskern, and I have never gotten particularly great results; however, I got some pretty big bruises from his treatments, which was unusual. My problem with Dr. Kniskern was not the treatment, however. When I first met with him he told me he did not take insurance and had me sign an agreement to pay up front for each session; he did say that he would submit paperwork to my insurance company. After my treatments I requested Dr. Kniskern to submit paperwork to my insurance company for a partial reimbursement. He did so, and in accordance with his instructions they paid him directly at his contracted rate; as it turns out, he was an in-network provider. It took me seven months of calls to the insurance company and trying to find and deal with Dr. Kniskern, who disappeared for several months, to finally get a partial reimbursement of payments. It appears that others have gotten good results from Dr. Kniskern, but I'd recommend that you get clarity about payment with your insurance company before you start treatment with him. And he makes you sign anything, get a copy of it.

I first visited Dr. Kniskern upon recommendation to help with migraines and lower back problems. I have since continued treatment for many ailments and as a sort of preventive medicine effort due to the fact that the treatment worked so well. I have been going here for about 3 years and find great results no matter what the pain. I am not a fan of medication treatments and am very conscience of what goes into my body. I pay attention to those little pains we all tend to get and nod off which can represent a more deep rooted issue. I am very active and rough with my workouts and so I am prone to injuries- play hard or go home. Some of my experience here has included: lower back pain gone in a matter of a few visits, major ankle sprain swelling and pain reduced and mobility improved 75% in one visit, no migraines for 3 years, bruised deep tissue hand bruise 90% pain reduced in one visit, and these are just a few I can think of now. If you have any ailments that you are having trouble finding solutions to and are tired of traditional western procedures and medications this is a solution with thousands of years of history to support it. The needles don't hurt and in fact are not felt at all in most cases. Put the traditional concept of needles out of you mind as it does not apply in the case as so many may believe. I have a large phobia of actual needles and I go here every week. Take note that this is not always a one time, one visit fix for all issue. It can take many return visits to really see results for all issues. If you think of your body comparing it to an automobile and consider that we typically don't do enough to sustain regular maintenance or exercise and so it is possible your body is suffering from long term neglect and so resolving all issues is not a simple as a one time oil change. There are many acupuncture clinics out there but I have never found one with Dr. Kniskern's set of credentials and approach. Most will help for a matter of only a few months but this place has been reliable throughout the years now. Great insight to Eastern and Western medicine techniques combined with nutritional guidance. Do your own research and know what to expect and then make the commitment to feeling better every day. If you cannot find solutions to your issues then this may be your last stop!

I have found a credible and effective acupuncturist in Dr. Kniskern, as well as a trusting and genuine health advocate. I've been battling chronic insomnia for the last 2 years. In addition, I've also experienced heavy nasal congestion and sometimes difficulty breathing. Last year I met with numerous doctors and specialists, and in a nutshell, I felt a stronger push for a quick fix via pharmaceuticals. I needed to sleep and abided, but after several months the insomnia continued ... but new mixtures were required and dosages needed to be increased. Clearly, this was a senseless plan for me and the right time to explore alternative medicine. I read a few articles and blogs and used AcuFinder as a quick resource to begin my search for a local and credible acupuncturist. I reviewed various websites and decided to call Dr. Kniskern, given his experience and education in both Western and Eastern Medicine. After chatting with Dr. Kniskern, I quickly sensed his genuine concern for my health and well-being. He clearly explained the process and patiently answered my many questions ... I liked what I heard, put my trust in him and scheduled my first acupuncture session same day. That same night I noticed an ease in my breathing. In fact, my breathing got easier with each session. And, after 3 sessions, I was also beginning to sleep for a few hours, which for me was equivalent to a full night of deep sleep! After 9 sessions in about a week and a half, I had my first restful night of 7 hours of sleep ... and drug-free. The return on such a slight investment for my great health is priceless! I will continue to see Dr. Kniskern well after my sleep becomes regular as I am convinced that his style of acupuncture has a tremendous effect on my mind, body and health. Anyone looking for an experienced and knowledgeable acupuncturist, I feel, could do no better than Dr. Kniskern.

At 25 weeks pregnant I was suffering from debilitating back pain. In addition, I was under a lot of stress having moved from the Midwest mid-pregnancy as well. I have a two year old so just "resting" my back was not a viable option and traditional OTC pain meds and prescription drugs were not something I was interested in passing onto the baby. After confirming with my nurse practitioner, I chose to look into non traditional medicine to help ease my discomfort. I sought advice and guidance from Doc K to see if acupuncture could provide some relief. I have been so grateful for the relief and thoughtful care he has been able to provide during the second half of my pregnancy. I feel that the relief I have been provided is both physical and mental. I know that Doc cares about the whole person and makes sure he provides a comfortable environment for you during all of your treatments. If you are considering acupuncture, Doc K can help. His calm bedside manner and easy to talk to demeanor makes him an ideal medical practitioner. If you are pregnant and struggling to feel comfortable as your body changes, I strongly suggest you give Doc a call and see how he can make you feel better for the long haul.

I went to San Carlos Acupuncture based on the recommendation of a friend. Dr. Kniskern's understanding of nutrition and expertise in Eastern treatments coupled with his medical school training from Stanford resulted in a multi-faceted approach to overcoming the effects of 4 weeks of hospitalization and 2 months of recovery and five years of living with the results. I am delighted to report that as a result of Dr. Kniskern's comprehensive approach, including acupuncture, I have improved energy and endurance, increased mobility and balance and only occasional pain. In addition to his treatment, he has educated me so that I am better able to recognize the early warning signs of potential problems and address them before they become full blown conditions.
